Any Michiganders take the HESI recently? (the prenursing school one)

Published

I have heard that the vocabulary portion of the HESI is rather difficult because the terms you need to know aren't in the study guide. Is there anyone with advice on how to prep for that portion of the test? TIA !

Kelly

I have asked a few people about the percentage requirement, and have never received a concrete answer. So I am unsure if the 85% is true or not. I only have a 3.68 gpa for my last 17 credits of which they will be looking at. I just hope that it is good enough. my gpa would have been higher, however there was some tough times at work a couple of semesters back and I was not able to spend as much time on school work as I would have liked.

I know it's a basic test, that's the scary part :uhoh21: ! LOL. I thought I would have no problem with the reading and grammar portion but I missed the first two questions on the practice tests for reading in my study guide (purpose and topic). I still think my choices weren't necessarily wrong, the passage was so ambiguous! I guess the test is made to trip you up, to some extent! I have a 4.0 GPA currently, so my chances of getting into the program are all riding on Saturday's test results. Oh well, back to my study guide I go.....

Oh, do you have to get an 85% or better to get accepted (at MCC)? I think someone who applied to MCC told me that.

I can't wait for Saturday to be over with.

you know we are in the same boat, as i have a 4.00 and i am talking the exam on saturday. I guess i will see you at the center campus.

my sister had a 4.0 and got a 87.55% on the exam and got accepted. As far as what i understand they convert you grades for the exam and gpa in ranking 50%+50%=100% so i remember in the saminnar they told us that the person that was last accepted last year has a 3.7 and 90% (this is form my memory; i could be wrong maybe you know the actual numbers) so my math says his/her ranking % would be 91.25%. now let us consider that we have 4.0 which we do. so we have 50% on the GPA part so we would need 82.5% on the exam to get the rest of 41.25% we need for the ranking % so if you if we get a 85% on the exam we should be good. but remember It is all compatative so you never know we may get 87.55% and have 4.0, like my sister, but not get accepted it all depends on how other did.

I had a question for someone that has took the exam before; can we use a calculator on all the question of the math, or is it just some question that we can use the calculator and the rest we have to do it by hand? I am good at math but need calculator to doe some basic math.

anyhow MIKelly I will see you Saturday, and good luck, hopefully we get accepted in the program.

No calculator for any part of the exam is allowed.

Hey, good job on that exam, I hope i can do that good. anyhow i just calculated you ranking %, it is 92.49% that is higher then the last person in last year to get accepted, that is at 91.25% (providing my memory form that seminar is right (he/she had 3.7 and 90%)) so you do have some good chance of getting in to the program. good luck. maybe i will see you in the program.

Thanks for you reply, no calculator that suks; i guess i will have to brush up on my math skills.

You have the ability to use the calculator throughout the exam. You cannot use your own of course. The computer based test has a built in calc that you are able to access no matter which portion of the test you are taking. (I know because I was doing my overall % as I completed each section). They will also give you scrap paper, which they collect before you leave. Good luck to everyone who still has to take it. I wish you all the luck,...granted.... as long as your not taking my spot in the upcoming fall program. :nono: but.... other than that... good luck.

thanks for your reply, it is great that we can use a calculator on the exam. my sister told me that there is a software calculator in the hesi program that you can use. any how thanks for the help.

Did anyone buy the Hesi A2 Secrets Study guide? I am freaking myself out thinking there's more I should do to prepare besides look at the regular Hesi Study guide I currently have. I'm guessing that's more for people that have to take all the components of the test though (chemistry, anatomy and biology), not just the basics that are on the MCC test.

I go to Macomb community college and i took the HESI test today..i scored 80 and above on all the parts except the vocaulary part. i actually thought i would do good on that part then the rest.i was very dissappointed to see my score for the vocab. i would suggest you study a lot and study the vocab part more...they use ur score and you GPA and then rank you.

I studied all the vocabulary words in the study guide, but I heard there are words on the test that aren't in the guide. Did you find that to be true or did you wish you'd focused more on the list from the study guide?

I took the NET not the HESI for HFCC and the reading portion was harder than the math but it involved reading passages and then deciphering the main idea, conclusion, etc. It didn't include medical terminology though.

I would advice to take the time to read each question carefully and covering the answers. Good luck!

I took the Hesi this morning and did well on it, it wasn't nearly as bad as I had myself hyped up over. I ended up with an overall score of 94.87%. For me the reading portion of the test was the most difficult. I actually thought the vocabulary portion was very easy; I only came across one or two words that had me scratching my head. I think if you study the Hesi guide it really helps you get a good score. I am sooooooooo glad the darn thing is under my belt now !
