Macomb Nursing (MCC) instructor for 1510
Hi, I just started the nursing program this week and i have a question about the instructor for 1510. I have try to research on her/him as to what kind of teacher is he/she but with hardly any luck. I wish to ask anyone that has had him/her in the past what kind of teacher is he/she? I see there is only 3 exam and no other points form HW or project etc. The fact that our grade is based on only 3 exams, scares me to death. What if i fail the first exam? I will be probably failing the the entire program. So let me know if you guys had him/her and how should I go forward with the class and the exam? and how should i study for the exam? do his/her notes help? or do i need to read the book? I don't like to read the book and like the notes as they seem to help me, but don't want to wait till the first exam to find out the are not enough. Thanks in advance.

Not Really! I am out of town and will start reading out of my sisters notes once returning back. Did you start the program yet or you will be starting in march just like me?

How much are experienced RN's making?
Hi, i will be starting RN/ADN Program at MCC this march. I have not had any experience in health care. I would like to go for travel or contract nursing, just like some of you guys. Can anyone advise me? Please let me know if ADN/RN will be enough or do i need BSN? Also, can I get in to contract or travel nursing right out of ADN/RN program or do i need experience? if so how much of experience and and in what area of nursing. Thanks in advance.

macomb cc nursing program
I got 92.xx% or 93% i don't recall that much as it was over a year ago. I think i am one of the low ranking people so i suggest doing even better on your hesi. The hesi at MCC is only for math, reading, grammar, and vocab. So get that book at the learning center. Math is very basic like the stuff you did in 1st to 4th grade. reading is simple and grammar can be tricky so read that book for common errors that the book points out. vocab is for words that doctors use not medical terms but just normal vocab that doctors tend to use. I think you can get all your class ready for next years admission process. Don't bother to take math as it is waste of time and money, you dont need math, if at all you need just review some books.

Need help preparing for the Hesi A2 Entrance Exam
The program at in MCC in Michigan dose not test for AP and Chem. We only had vocab, reading, grammar and math. Math is very simple the stuff that you did in 1st to 5th grade (there is a soft calc in the testing software that you can use), reading is very simple just keep track of what you read and answer the question, grammar is also simple but can be tricky so just go over the errors that the book shows you. vocab is very simple top, its not medical terms but it is general english vocabs that doctors tend to use. The book dose a good job with the terms. AP and Chem part cant be that difficult. I would suggest reading your class notes and the review book. I got a 93% and yes you probably want to do better then that as every year it becomes more and more difficult to enter a program.

macomb cc nursing program
Well, i will be starting the program this march. Yes, they rank you 50/50 on hesi and 12 credit gpa. I would recommend a 4.0 gpa and a 92% or more on hesi, if you dont meet this you may have a very hard time getting in the program. for the 2007 admission we had 1000 students and only 125 got in. the application process deadline is sometime in jan or feb of every year. I think we must have passed the deadline for 2008. they accept 125 students and have 4 different start per year. I also recommend taking hard bio class as you 12 credits, and sutudy from that hesi book available at the library. That is what i did. Hope my info helps.

Need help preparing for the Hesi A2 Entrance Exam
I took the exam last year in Jan, it was the last date offered. My sister told me it was going to be hard. She gave me a xerox copy of the study guide that you can review at MCC library. in 2004 she took it and got a 87 and got in the program. I took the exam last year and got 92 and will be starting in March. I think it was not hard at all any educated being can pass with a good grade. You just need to know the basic math (elementary school), reading, grammar, and vocab. Just study from the study guide, don't even buy it just review it at MCC. Good Luck!

New to the Forum Applying at MCC and Baker
I am starting the MCC program in March of '08. It was not too bad gitting in the program. The test and your last 12 Credit is what counts. I think since i got in march, i was the border line. 92.33% on the test and 4.0 on the last 12 credits. I am not sure of backer. The only school i applied to is MCC even i live in Oakland County as I know OCC is much harder to get in to. Good Luck!

Michigan wages
I wonder the same because I like in Oakland county too. $20 is nothing in oakland. Are you talking about RN starting wage or LPN? You see, Oakland County is one of the most richest counties in the nation. As a matter of fact if you take out some areas like Hazal park, and oak park, and other it would become the richest county in the US. Most people in the oakland count are very well educated Like doctors and businessman and lawyers. So they can afford housing like that. Also, if you notice or go on a drive to other part of metro detroit the housing is not that expense. Take macomb county for example it is very cheap. My dad almost try to sell the house we live in to move to macomb to down size as he is having some a hard time paying all the bills. Oh also, employers in Oakland County is likely to pay more as the standard of living is much higher. Also try Ann Arbor as it is also become one of the affluent areas in the the state. Also, Look at this: http://swz.salary.com/salarywizard/layoutscripts/swzl_localrangebell.asp?geo=Troy%2C+MI+48083&jobtitle=Staff+Nurse+-+RN&jobcode=HC07000001&narrowdesc=Healthcare+--+Nursing&narrowcode=HC05&yearsofexp=&zipadjustfct=0.11703&metrocode=53&zipcode=48083&r=salswz_swzlocbll_psr&p=050205_psr_495&s=salary&wsrcode=SW1&pagenumber=1&salway=B&paycheckcalc=0&taxyear=2007&paycheckstate=Michigan&grosspay=65973&grossfreq=a&grossytd=&paypd=26&fedstatus=1&fedexemps=0&additionalfit=0&roundfed=0&statestatus=1&stateexemps=0&additionalsit=0&deductionnum=1&deductiondrop_1=401%28k%29&deductionname_1=&deductionamt_1=&deductiontype_1=3&educationcode1= http://swz.salary.com/salarywizard/layoutscripts/swzl_nationalrangebell.asp?jobcode=HC07000001&error=1&jobtitle=Staff%20Nurse%20-%20RN&narrowcode=HC05&narrowdesc=Healthcare%20--%20Nursing&yearsofexp= http://swz.salary.com/salarywizard/layoutscripts/swzl_localrangebell.asp?geo=U.S.+National+Averages&jobcode=HC07000001&jobtitle=Staff+Nurse+-+RN&narrowdesc=Healthcare+--+Nursing&narrowcode=HC05&yearsofexp=&r=salswz_swznatblb_psr&p=050205_psr_495&s=salary&pagenumber=1&paycheckcalc=0&zipcode=48301 In short if you are a new RN you will be making about $50k a year plus all the benefits. I hope it helps, you can also find more salary like the LPN on and what not on that same site.

How many people haven't received their letter yet from Macomb?
Hey looks to me like you have a good chance. I just came to know that there is going to be another batch of 30 fast track students. And I am sure there will be another 30 students that will accept positions elsewhere. Good luck!

How many people haven't received their letter yet from Macomb?
Yes, That is what i feel too. You see, people take some blowoff class and get into the program and they are not capable of nursing school and end up droping. on the other end a person that took hard classes and did not get in and may not get in at other schools and end up in some other program. We save we have shortage of nurses this is the main reason why we have shortage. On top of this, I just read an ad on this site saying "Nurses form India" Now they are going to flood the market. I hate what they did to IT. Anyhow I hate to say this but this is what is going to happen. I become a RN and there will not be any demand as the Indian Nurses would have flood the market.
