I am currently at Miami Dade College fulfilling prerequisites in order to apply for the Nursing program that starts fall 2009. I'd like to be in touch with other career changers who after getting a bachelor's in a non-nursing field decided to pursue the program at Miami Dade College.
Thanks for your interest!
@Pomakkya,Wow! Denied with a 3.8 gpa?! That's crazy. Looks like I'm hoping for a miracle. Was your gpa cumulative or just natural sciences? (i.e. did the gpa you applied with before include your UF gpa? or was it only your prerequisites needed for admission to mdcc? )
To everyone else,
What other schools have you applied to or will apply to? So far, in my research there are some pretty awesome out-of-state schools e.g. Jefferson University [ABSN + MSN in 2 years], Oklahoma City [guaranteed acceptance in ABSN with all prereks completed], Lady of the Lake College [10 mth ASN program], and others. I am also contemplating applying to Palm Beach State college for their full-time generic nursing program. Would love to hear from you all your other school options and back up plans.
Later!
@NikkiNJesus,
This is my MDC gpa. My UF gpa does not show anywhere on my MDC record, meaning it's not noted on my audits, transcripts, etc. I have never taken courses at MDC until last year (2009). I've received all A's at MDC, but I did bring over my Algebra from UF, which I received a B in. So, really had they not used my Algebra, I'd have a 4.0. I really prefer MDC because I have the money ready for the program; but I may consider BCC since they've extended their deadline till July 2. Only drawback, is taking the HESI placement test, but I figured, why not.
I wonder what the numbers were this year in terms of the amount of people that applied. Better yet I wonder what the number of applicants will be now that they are required to take the TEAS or whatever test. I am glad the hardest part is over. I went to school for a year straight to finish the pre-reqs so I am enjoying my little break. Just trying to save up some money and get ready. Until then enjoy the summer!

remember that total cumulative GPA is what counts.
