Any Miami Dade College students going for the acceler. or Generic option fall 2009?

Published

I am currently at Miami Dade College fulfilling prerequisites in order to apply for the Nursing program that starts fall 2009. I'd like to be in touch with other career changers who after getting a bachelor's in a non-nursing field decided to pursue the program at Miami Dade College.

Thanks for your interest!

Hey everyone:)

Congrats! to all who got your coveted yellow envelopes. It's refreshing to hear that those in the 3.7 area got in.

Wow, I can't believe this tread is still going strong. Even thought it's no longer for Fall2009.

Weird thing is most active posters i've seen are usually in the AO track. Where are all the Generic 2010 MDC applicants or part timers at? Anybody seen a a new thread for the 2010MDC Generic Full Time? The only one I found was only 5 pages for the AO track. Usually they are over 50 pages like this one, lol.

Btw, I was accepted into the Fall 2009 Generic but decided to defer for Spring2010 so I could take my Microbiology and hope for the Scholars program. I gambled correct and the Scholars program is back since it was not available for the Fall2009. Now if I could only win one of those 40 coveted spots, i'll be golden.

Anyways, I went to the Scholarship session last nite and I record everything so I thought I'd share with those who missed it or perhaps did not take notes, or when writing their essay would like to refresh their minds. It's in WMA format which is a Windows Media Audio file.

prospective...thanks for the audio clip!...what did you record it on an Iphone?

Hey Prospective,

So since the last message I sent you and after going to the Scholarship information session last night, I'm pretty sure that I'll be going into the Generic Full-time this Spring instead of the Accelerated (I'm scared I may die), and I'll be trying for the Scholarship as well. It would be so great if we got in. Thats all for now, thanks so much for the reply, and Congrats on getting in. Hope we make it to Baptist!!!!

Best Wishes,

No, I don't use the iPhone to record lectures cause the mic on it has not given me great results. I specifically purchased one used by some newspaper reporters. It's has 1GB of space called DS-50 Olympus Digital Voice Recorder. I like it cause it's so user friendly to upload my files to my pc or mp3 player. Plus, it has a lot of different quality voice recording formats. So far it gives me the best quality to date.

I hear you and agree. I have the utmost respect for the brave souls that attempt and endure the AO track. I just don't see how it possible to accomplish it without a mental breakdown. It's just too much information overload in such a short time. And, I know some who are presently doing it. More power to them. I have this absurd idea that I will maintain a high GPA, though so many in this forum who are currently there will quickly disagree and remind me that the only thing that matters is a "C" for "continue". I just want to go beyond 2-4 year degree. I guess I will soon find out.

Yes, I hope we all get into that Baptist Scholars. That would be a nice Xmas :gift: and immediate job security to get past this recession.

Prospective,

I feel the same way. I see myself in Grad school sometime in the future, and I worked so hard to bring my GPA up from where it was; I don't think I'm willing to lose it all in 12 months. I agree with you, they are definitely a gutsy group, more power to them, as you said!

For the Baptist essay they're asking for one that "contains a brief personal description, educational and career goals, and reason for choosing nursing." I'm clear on all but one. What do you think a good "personal description" would entail, for their purposes at least?

We are still here holding on. I start Human Growth and Development at the end of this month and then will be taking Nutrition next semester. I will apply in May 10' for the Part time Generic Program. I hope my 3.7 helps ....................

But it's exciting to see some who have applied many times before FINALLY get in..............HOPE ALL IS WELL

Your ahead of me. I have an exam on Microbiology coming up and have not started to grapple with the essay as of yet.

Oh I wish I was ahead, I'm actually starting to fall behind in Chemistry b/c I'm devoting all my time to this paperwork. Good luck with Micro...

Do they consider your gpa based on just the pre-reqs or is it based on all the classes you have ever taken at MDC????

From what I have heard it's based on ALL classes taken at MDC but I am not sure......................Did u apply yet ?
