Because if you talk to anyone that has taken the modern version of the NCLEX...even talk to professors....you will know that the NCLEX of today is WAAAAY more difficult than what you took 20+ years ago...the amount of material, drugs and technology that we have to learn and retain is so massive today....throw in legal and ethics issues that are more in-play in today's caring of patients. AND...we have to pass in a limited amount of questions......I wish I had 5x250 tests over 2 days....the more questions, the better my chances of passing because I have a higher probability of answering more correctly than incorrectly if you give me a larger bank of questions to work with. not necessarily...if you get accepted, you will get a yellow envelope with all the paperwork...one of those will be a health paper that you must take to the doctor...you have to show proof that you have the other vaccines like Measles Mumps Rubella (if you don;t have paperwork from when you were little, then you have to run blood test titers to show that you have immunity)....you get the 1st HEP B right after you get accepted into the program, then the 2nd one 1 month later...you won't be doing clinicals until the 2months into the 1st semester...and then they only require you have the 2nd HEP B...but eventually you will have to update your records to show that you have all 3 HEP B.

you know it...especially HEP B is 3 shots...1st, 1 month, 6 months from 1st. HEP A is 2 shots, if you wish to get that one...wish I had gotten both at the same time....there is a vaccine called TWINRIX that has both the HEP A & B combined

I had a CUM GPA of 3.78, but with 90 credits. As for the HEP B vaccine...go to the Miami Dade Health department...where all the poor people go to get their vaccines...it's free!

LOL...everybody wants to get in under the radar... It is what it is...you won't be the only one...just be happy you have a chance to apply and be considered. Look at it as practice, because that's what it will be from that point on...the TEAS is just a primer for what's to come...there's no hand-holding once you are in...there is no "dropping the lowest grade"...there's no "extra points"...there's not "extra credit assignment"...the harsh reality sets in. So, the more tests you can take and practice on...the better prepared you will be....it's just the truth

I think this is a result of applicants complaining that many excellent prospective students with 3.2 to 3.6 GPA were being shut out. I think inserting the TEAS test provides another filter........just because you are a brand new student and only take the nursing requirements with the easy teachers and get a 4.0 GPA.......does that make you a better qualified nursing student than someone who has a 3.4 GPA, but has an AA or a BA degree? I think being a nurse should involve more than just GPA....they should do interviews and an entrance test. Just my humble opinion.

It's does not look like it...only Full Time students were selected this year...even the Accelerated students were not allowed to the Baptist Scholars...but I think a few were allowed in the UM Scholars....nothing for Part Time

Valky.....Actually everything turned out for the BEST...I got accepted to the UM Hospital Scholars Program...everything paid for....classes at Medical campus, all the books, uniforms, lab jacket, scrubs, Littmann stethoscope, watch, BP cuff, penlight and shoes!!! I understand, Baptist turned around and did not pay for any of this stuff for their scholars, and they did not reimburse. We have to give them back 2 years to UM hospital, but hey, it's a job...and you have to put your time in anyways...and in the end, you are a UM employee! Clinicals will be done at UM Hospital (a teaching and research hospital)...so there are great opportunities there to be exposed to many types of patients. ....for the previous post...these nursing scholars positions at Baptist and UM are not offered out right to anyone....you have to be accepted to the Miami Dade Nursing program first....then, MDC has a contract with these hospitals to provide them with their top students...which have then you have to fill out several applications, write and essay, and go to an interview process.
