Because if you talk to anyone that has taken the modern version of the NCLEX...even talk to professors....you will know that the NCLEX of today is WAAAAY more difficult than what you took 20+ years ago...the amount of material, drugs and technology that we have to learn and retain is so massive today....throw in legal and ethics issues that are more in-play in today's caring of patients. AND...we have to pass in a limited amount of questions......I wish I had 5x250 tests over 2 days....the more questions, the better my chances of passing because I have a higher probability of answering more correctly than incorrectly if you give me a larger bank of questions to work with. not necessarily...if you get accepted, you will get a yellow envelope with all the paperwork...one of those will be a health paper that you must take to the doctor...you have to show proof that you have the other vaccines like Measles Mumps Rubella (if you don;t have paperwork from when you were little, then you have to run blood test titers to show that you have immunity)....you get the 1st HEP B right after you get accepted into the program, then the 2nd one 1 month later...you won't be doing clinicals until the 2months into the 1st semester...and then they only require you have the 2nd HEP B...but eventually you will have to update your records to show that you have all 3 HEP B.

you know it...especially HEP B is 3 shots...1st, 1 month, 6 months from 1st. HEP A is 2 shots, if you wish to get that one...wish I had gotten both at the same time....there is a vaccine called TWINRIX that has both the HEP A & B combined

I had a CUM GPA of 3.78, but with 90 credits. As for the HEP B vaccine...go to the Miami Dade Health department...where all the poor people go to get their vaccines...it's free!

LOL...everybody wants to get in under the radar... It is what it is...you won't be the only one...just be happy you have a chance to apply and be considered. Look at it as practice, because that's what it will be from that point on...the TEAS is just a primer for what's to come...there's no hand-holding once you are in...there is no "dropping the lowest grade"...there's no "extra points"...there's not "extra credit assignment"...the harsh reality sets in. So, the more tests you can take and practice on...the better prepared you will be....it's just the truth

I think this is a result of applicants complaining that many excellent prospective students with 3.2 to 3.6 GPA were being shut out. I think inserting the TEAS test provides another filter........just because you are a brand new student and only take the nursing requirements with the easy teachers and get a 4.0 GPA.......does that make you a better qualified nursing student than someone who has a 3.4 GPA, but has an AA or a BA degree? I think being a nurse should involve more than just GPA....they should do interviews and an entrance test. Just my humble opinion.

It's does not look like it...only Full Time students were selected this year...even the Accelerated students were not allowed to the Baptist Scholars...but I think a few were allowed in the UM Scholars....nothing for Part Time

Valky.....Actually everything turned out for the BEST...I got accepted to the UM Hospital Scholars Program...everything paid for....classes at Medical campus, all the books, uniforms, lab jacket, scrubs, Littmann stethoscope, watch, BP cuff, penlight and shoes!!! I understand, Baptist turned around and did not pay for any of this stuff for their scholars, and they did not reimburse. We have to give them back 2 years to UM hospital, but hey, it's a job...and you have to put your time in anyways...and in the end, you are a UM employee! Clinicals will be done at UM Hospital (a teaching and research hospital)...so there are great opportunities there to be exposed to many types of patients. ....for the previous post...these nursing scholars positions at Baptist and UM are not offered out right to anyone....you have to be accepted to the Miami Dade Nursing program first....then, MDC has a contract with these hospitals to provide them with their top students...which have then you have to fill out several applications, write and essay, and go to an interview process.

looks like you are right...that would be terrible...a whole new set of classes I'm happy with the classes I already scheduled on Seq 1...I have Mondays off, plus clinicals at Mt. Sinai tomorrow is my interview...praying that they go easy on me :bowingpur

but...by taking these accelerated programs, whether at MDC, Nova, Barry...aren't you risking your GPA taking a beating? the last time I checked...MDC and most other programs like ARNP are using GPA as a heavy determinant to who gets accepted. yeah...you may finish 1 semester ahead of me, but mostly likely your GPA will take a big hit over mine...I'm just saying...this is just my observation...also, FAU, NOVA or Barry programs are expensive compared to MDC... it's very easy to fall into the trap of "Accelerated" program...and I know some people are constrained for time and money to take whatever is fastest. at the end of the day...it's how well you do in your NCLEX to get your RN and then what GPA you have to apply to the BSN and ARNP programs.

But then MSN and ARNP are not the same...have a BA in Finance and am starting my RN in January...my goal is to transition into a BSN...which MDC has a part time program for this...then onto ARNP.

I think the question asked was about going from an AS in nursing to BSN to apply for the ARNP program (which is a masters level degree for an RN)...if one already has a BA in Business, is there a shortcut?...I do not think this is possible. Sure, at FAU or Barry there is the program you mention...but, it is still 3 years, which is like a master's in itself...as a comparison, you can do an Executive MBA in 1.5 years...so having a BA in Business, or another degree, does not allow you to leapfrog from RN to a BSN or into an ARNP program. I myself have a degree in Finance and honestly I believe you have to put in your time as an RN...there shouldn't be a short cut just because I have a degree in a totally unrelated field...I'm sure all nurses would agree

I understand from an FIU standing..you must have fulfilled a BSN before you can apply to ARNP program...you cannot just do ARNP with an RN & AS in nursing...no matter how many years experience you have...at least this is what I understand.

I'm not sure that for the UM Scholars program all the classes are changed. I was told that only the clinical is different...obviously at UM Hospital (old Cedars) I already have all my books and classes registered...I was even able to get my clinical are Mt. Sinai.

I had to post this because I enjoyed reading some of the responses...I totally bombed the recent Baptist Interview...first off, I was not aware that it was a panel interview and I admit it was my complete fault for not being prepared. When I got to Baptist HR, I still had to wait an extra 40 minutes for my interview...then, when I got into the room, all four women were serious as a heart attack...not one smile...very intimidating! There were no informal getting to know you moments...the first question before my butt even touched the chair was..."we are going to make a big investment in you, why do you think we should invest in you and why do you think you will make a good nurse?" The other questions were those moronic situational questions based on the STAR format...which are worthless, because anyone can reheorifice any response to any of those questions...in the end, you really do not learn about the candidate you are hiring...only that they know how to BS answers to those questions...those with the gift of gab do the best in these interviews. I am not exactly a young student, I am an older male and had a successful past career...but I decided to make a career change into nursing, something that I have always wanted to get into...but I guess they did not like my answers to their questions...I just could not do the whole "I have been dreaming of being a nurse my whole life..." response that everyone gives. After the interview, I left with such a bad taste in my mouth that I am kinda of glad that I did not get the baptist scholar...if the attitude that these four nurses greeted me with is indicative of the type of people I would have been working with...I would rather pass. no doubt, I am sure Baptist is a great place to work...but I always have my doubts about the quality of RN nursing education that would be provided by Baptist Hospital compared to the qualified professors that are at the actual Medical Campus. GPA for Part Time is much higher...figure, only about 40 slots per year...out of all the MDC students that apply every year...then figure the GPAs...4.0, 3.9, 3.8...I would only guess it is much more competitive

30NCN...my posts were more a general statement and not really directed at any one person...I have AS and BA degree myself and returned to MDC after 15 years to find it a different place...I attended the Kendall campus back in the day...I am not sure how it is today...I find everything more expensive...the books are a hand-down robbery...if it were hurricane season, we could sue the book store for price gouging! Most of the professors for the nursing pre-reqs at North, Inter and Mercy campus are giving away easy grades. The students all scramble to find the "easy" A teachers and most of the teachers are so tired of getting "beat" up by students that they just give in with test reviews with answers or curve the tests grades. I figure many of these teachers do this because they feel that nursing school and the NCLEX will be the real filter...but then again...you are over-inflating GPA's that are fake...I have a 3.75 GPA with 93 credits at MDC only, and we are talking about classes like Calculus, Inorganic & Organic Chemistry, Physics 1 & 2 look, I'm not tooting my own horn here...I'm pretty humble about stuff...but when I see the GPA required to get in MDC nursing school I laugh and shake my head...the school is doing itself a great dis-service by NOT qualifying students and looking at the overall candidate...using GPA, essay, interview, volunteer work, work experience, etc. If the school only uses GPA to qualify people, and then they allow these easy classes and professors that hand out "A" like it's a bake sale...the school is doing a great disservice to its reputation and to it's students.

It's ridiculous...I have taken exams with ADULT students...these are not kids we are talking about...and they are cheating, talking to each other...it's sad... I am hispanic...but I hear many of my hispanic classmates complain that the exam was hard to read or understand...I want to tell them, HEY You came to this country for a new life and to benefit from all it's opportunities...don't expect this country to 'change' or make itself easier for your convenience! That is not how it works around here...if you have a language barrier, take classes like I did...but don't expect this place to turn into Cuba or Venezuela just to make it easier for you...then our country will become another banana republic just like the countries that we left behind... and don't cheat on your schooling...because in the end...you are really only cheating yourself...professors and school doesn't care, they are making their money...student should take pride in your own efforts.

I just hope that all my fellow classmates that got accepted this past year bring their "A" game to the nursing program...because it's one thing to go to ratemyprofessor.com and get all the easy cake "A" MDC teachers ...this is why these GPAs are so skewed to the top at MDC...I hope nursing school is not like this, because we are going to be making life or death decisions...and there is no "curve" when you are administering medication to a sick patient...I see many people make comments around here about a "C" in nursing school means continue...well, what do you call "C" student in medical school?..."Doctor"...and would you want to be treated by a doctor that just got by with "C" in Med school...probably not. I notice there is such a wide gap in grading standards between the Kendall Campus professors and the North/Mercy/Interamerican campus professors...those "A" that we have all been getting from those easy cake professors...are really "C" in another school...hope everyone realizes this and does not get complacent when they get to nursing school...I don't think they give any breaks there. hope no ones feelings are hurt...just my 2 cents...what I have seen the past year taking pre-req classes at MDC

LOL...I'm curious why the folks in NH are telling you to get outta the state and head somewhere else to get a job???...you figure they want to keep you there to benefit from your experience in NH...instead they're telling you to get out of town? Remember, the grass looks greener on the other side...but you still have to mow the lawn...

3 x 12 hour shifts = 36 hours x 2 weeks = biweekly 72 hours...I think this is contract work, no paid break??? Florida has a glut of nurses and it is not a well paying state...also, you better be healthy and not have children, because health insurance is big cost! Not to mention property taxes if you buy a home.

now to get the TB & drug test and Hep A/B vaccine...the Hep A/B vaccines pretty expensive and there are 3 of them spread out over 6 months or so...varicella not needed if you have had the chicken pox and you blood titer tests show the immunity...wow it's a lot of stuff

It's a Level 2 background, so it should include the fingerprints...I selected my appointment for Wednesday...but it allowed me to select Kendall Campus or North Campus...I live a little closer to Kendall Campus, so I selected it, I should be Ok???...although I know the paper says North Campus School of Justice?
