Any Miami Dade College students going for the acceler. or Generic option fall 2009?

Published

I am currently at Miami Dade College fulfilling prerequisites in order to apply for the Nursing program that starts fall 2009. I'd like to be in touch with other career changers who after getting a bachelor's in a non-nursing field decided to pursue the program at Miami Dade College.

Thanks for your interest!

Good Morning to you all!

First of all I would like to say that those of you that were not accepted to the various programs that you applied to don't give up hope. I know when you are in the situation of applying over and over again and keep getting shot down you lose hope and faith, but where there's a will there's a way.

I just called the medical campus and I spoke to an adviser from the nursing department and I was told that the letters for fulltime Spring '10 generic nursing should be going out this week and I tried my luck to ask about the cut of gpa and she said that it was around 3.63 more or less. So all of those around and above that keep your fingers crossed if possible keep your entire body crossed. Any future updates please let us all know. Thank you

Hello all,

I am new to this thread, but I too have applied to the accelerated program. I have a 3.80 GPA and I too have been rejected for admission to the accelerated program. I went to see an advisor yesterday and I was told the competition was fierce and that I was really close, but not close enough (3-5 people ahead of me). So, for some of you that may be wondering, it is really HELLLLLLL waiting, but I will try again:))

Did you finish all your pre-req's also?

I am sorry to hear that but DONT GIVE UP !!!!!!!!!!!! I will apply in May to Part time again but I already know my fate I am going to keep trying though. By then I should have a 3.7 but who knows ..................WELCOME to our THREAD WE laugh together and WE cry together it's all LOVE HERE !!!

did you get a letter or email last week to RSVP attend the nursing scholarship meeting?...also, did you have D, F or W in any of the required science courses you may have taken previously?

I did finish all my prereqs and got A's in all; however, I transferred my Algebra (grade B) class from undergrad, which has affected my GPA from 4.0 to 3.8

What scholarship meeting are you referring to?? I've seen many people on here referring to this "scholarship", but I'm not sure what they're referring to. As for my prereqs, all of the ones I've taken at MDC resulted in A's on first try.

possibly the Accelerated program had much more competition with GPA?...the Generic Fulltime and Part Time probably did not have such hig GPA?...if you only applied to one program(Accelerated), they would not have considered you for any other.

Wow Navita! Someone actually told you what the cut off might be? Did the advisor sound sure? I wonder.

sounds fishy to me...if it's not "on the record" from the school themselves, I am not sure that an advisor would stick their neck out (at least intentionally) and say something that is not true...then they could be subject to 100 phone calls saying that "he said / she said"...I would verify with any advisor..."is this the official GPA cut off from the department for this group...Accelerated/Generic/Bridge?"
