I am currently at Miami Dade College fulfilling prerequisites in order to apply for the Nursing program that starts fall 2009. I'd like to be in touch with other career changers who after getting a bachelor's in a non-nursing field decided to pursue the program at Miami Dade College.
Thanks for your interest!
I got my rejection letter for Bridge full time and part time this weekend I became an LPN bc it's so hard to get into the RN programs, I realllllyyy want to be a nurse and I figured I can be working as a nurse , i also heard its easier to get into the lpn to rn programs, lol apparently its not. Guess now I have to take extra classes to raise my gpa. Ugh I did all my crying this weekend cause its so frustrating, i really want to work at a hospital , hospitals dont really hire lpn's anymore, only agencies do. Guess I'll try again next time
Aww, I feel for you guys. I got the scholarship email, but who really knows if it means anything...?? I feel like I'm going to be one of the people that waits and waits and waits for weeks just to get a letter ... so frustrating! All I can tell you is that if there's a will, there's a way. There are so many other programs and options, don't sell yourself short. I understand MDC may be the most cost efficient & convenient program for you (myself as well), but sometimes you have to make sacrifices & work a little harder & adapt your plans. Have you looked into BCC? What about online schools, like Excelsior, Keiser, etc? I understand these schools are costly, but you have to look at any loans you take out as an investment that'll pay for itself over time - don't get scared by the initial sticker shock! You won't be the first person to take out student loans, and you won't be the last. Just take the time to look into other options... if you really want it, you have to make moves & go after it! Good luck :)
Hey everyone, I got my rejection letter for accelerated. I called and asked if they knew the cut off, but the lady told me that she didn't know. Then she told me that acceptance letters will be sent out in the next two days. It 's weird because I got my rejection letter and a scholarship letter in the mail on the same day. Now I'm just waiting for the generic letter.
nj640, I would think that getting any scholarship is a great deal. I know that most hospitals require you to work for them, but just think about it, you are guaranteed a job and you can get experience. I think that's a great deal for a nurse coming straight out of nursing school. Just a thought.
Miamigirl,
I got an actual letter in the mail for the scholarship yesterday. It came along with my rejection for accelerated. So I'm guessing the scholarship letter is for the generic program. I called today and a lady told me that acceptance letters for accelerated or generic should be out in the next two days. We'll see if she's right. You know how they are over there. They'll tell you anything to get you off the phone. This is my 4rd time applying. Can you believe it? Fall 08, Spring 09, Fall 09 and Spring 10. I went from a 3.1 to a 3.7. So trust me, I know how stressing it is.

I don't understand why they would send rejection letters before acceptance letters...you would want to get a concrete list of acceptance students, and those that turn down the acceptance open up a slot for others below...then after all slots are committed, you send out the rejection letters? doesn't this make sense?
