i've been to the ff. hospitals:
rizal medical center
quirino memorial medical center
east ave medical center
philippine heart center
national kidney institute
among them, only east avenue accepts volunteer nurses but they will start accepting new volunteers next month. are there any other hospitals that accept volunteers ASAP?
hello,,i think if you dont want to 'stock' in a long period of time in your house, it's better to consider to be a volunteer or trainee nurse atleast your still in the field of nursing, or work in different field like in callcenter and produce money for your self ...
one hospital that i know is the qcgh in munoz, there is a Training program for 6mos, they are trainee not volunteer,as a trainee they also work like a nurse and after the training they can apply in the hospital if they want. i think they are open this july.
With all due respect Suzanne, I know someone who has called the Nursing Council of New Zealand and the Council said that volunteer work is relevant and will be considered as experience.
Sorry, but calling a BON and having something in writing are two very different things. The person that normally answers the phone is not the one that makes decisions. Each case is determined on its own merit and they will take into account where the volunteer work is done. Many that are training, or working as volunteers, are not permitted to do many of the procedures that one normally does as an RN, such as inserting catheters and administering medications.
This is the same for any country.
And you are also getting the information third hand, that really never makes a difference to me; as someone always knows someone that did something. And usually nothing pans out from it.
Suggest that you check out the website for the NZ BON and read what they have there. That would be the most factual and honest, not what someone else told you.
try Veterans Memorial Medical Center i heard they also accepts Volunteer nurses there.
I work at AFP Medical Center and i know our hospital accepts OJT nurses.
Our OJTs work Mon-fri, morning shift only and they do not have to go on duty during holidays and whenever the CHED declares cancellation of classes due to weather disturbances.
You would have to finish the 6 months program to get a certificate though.
Our OJTs are allowed to do most of the nursing procedures as long as they are under the direct supervision of a staff nurse.
However, just like what suzanne said, volunteer works doesn't usually count as experience partly because i think as a volunteer, you are not given the full reponsibility over the care of your patient and you don't get to practice more of your own decision making just like a real staff nurse. I've seen some of our OJTs just hangin around doing nothing until the shift is over because i think they have this thinking that they are not obliged to do this and that because they are "volunteers/ OJT" and that they are there just to finish the program and get their certificates.
while of course there are some who are very eager to learn, which is good because they were able to maximize their learning experience and have a "feel" of how its like to be a nurse in the hospital setting.
Try H.W. Miller Sanitarium and Hospital in Cebu. They have a good volunteer program. You'll be given a lesser load as compared to the regular staff nurses but you still got to do the same procedures as the regular staff. They'll rotate you in ER, Medical ward, Surgical ward, ICU, Nursery and OPD.

NZ requires the local license and experience and passing of the IELTS exam before they will consider anyone.
