Any Fall 2008 UCLA - MECN Program Applicants out there?

Published

Are any of you starting to get anxious about the forthcoming decisions? We have another month or so yet to know, but I still want to know NOW! :innerconf ... Wanna share in the waiting process? Have you heard anything about the # of people they are accepting? Anything?

Hello deni_in_LA,

All the accepted students need to notify Shelli by April 4 on their decision. After April 4, Shelli will get a clearer better of ( insert unknown number here) acceptance letters that went out, how many have confirmed their admission to UCLA. Then she'll move on to the waiting list.

You should be hearing from her very soon. :-)

Has anyone on the waiting list gotten an update from Shelli? It seems like the waiting process just goes on and on.

hello everyone,

this is a message reminding everyone to send shelli a short letter notifying her by april 4th that you will be attending ucla. if you decide to attend another nursing program, send her a courtesy e-mail (this is optional) to let her know where you stand.

if you intend on coming to ucla this fall, go ahead and submit your intent to enroll on ursa. the site for ursa is https://www.ursa.ucla.edu/default.asp. you will need to create your own log-in and password.

for some of you who plan on living in the graduate student apartments, make sure you submit your form by april 11, 2008. westwood is a very expensive place, so consider apartments in the vicinity of westwood. you may look at this website for more information - http://www.thewestwood4.com/

good luck to all. ucla is a great school and i'm sure many of you will enjoy the program.

Maybemaybenot, If you don't mind telling me, where are you on the wait list that she maybe implied you won't get in?

deni_in_LA, i'm allllll the way at the very very bottom of the list ... have you called or emailed shelli? she is really nice over the phone and answered my questions via email almost immediately :nuke:

Not to be doom and gloom but will you reapply to the MECN or start another program if you do not make it this go-around? If another program- which one? I am going to the CSUN open house on April 25 and bringing transcripts. I am going to take a more measured approach this time and cast a wider net. In some ways I regret not being able to start but I will definitely put this intervening year to good use with course work and volunteer activities.

Good luck to all on the waitlist and to those starting the program.:nurse:

even though it's not looking too good for me, i'm still hoping to get in somewhere this year... anywhere at this point!... i was lazy and didn't want to study for the gre so i applied to places that didn't require it... opps! my mistake! if i really don't get into any schools, i'm definitely going to apply to as many programs possible for next year... volunteer more and get better references... i just really dread having to study for the gre...

I agree with you about the GRE- I am the same way about which schools I apply to based on this requirement. I have not taken this kind of an exam in a very long time and from the practice questions, it seems to be a super SAT testing 9th and 10th grade math. This is prehistoric for me- when molten lava covered much of the earth and bugs were the size of a buick.

Hello maybemaybenot,

You should not equate being at the bottom of the waiting list to little or no hope of getting in. Maybe you will get in! :wink2: You keep your hopes up, ok? Remember, many of the students who are applying to UCLA are also applying to other schools. Some schools have already released their acceptance and rejection letters to applicants between December 2007 and March 2008, but there are a few schools such as CSULA and CSULB that will not notify their applicants until late April, May, or June.

I know how you feel - the desire to get into any school and start this year and not have to sit out another year. Use this year to research on other schools such as UCSF. Have you looked into LLU? LLU accepts applicants three times a year, but do check with them to see if deadlines are extended or changes have been made to their established deadlines. LLU has an Accelerated BSN-MSN program as well as an accelerated BSN program. They don't require the GREs but do require you to take the TEAs.

I suggest you to wait a few more days and then e-mail/call Shelli to see where you are on the waiting list.

Best of luck to you and everyone on the waiting list. :nuke:

Hello everyone,

Still looking for an epi class? In addition to Epi 100 offered exclusively on-line, there is another epi course in case some of you are unable to get into Epi 100. This course is NUR 50: Fundamentals of Epidemiology and is being offered during summer session A. Course info can be found by clicking on the link - http://www.registrar.ucla.edu/schedule/detselect_summer.aspx?termsel=081&subareasel=NURSING&idxcrs=0050++++6A

in case you're still wanting to get in to school for the fall, i found this posting on another site. i haven't checked the validity, so you may want to try. i'm off to get my son to school and don't have time. here's the info that was said to be on the front page of a newspaper on the 25th:

'After years of working to bring a university to Temecula, city officials

announced Tuesday that they are ironing out details with Cal State San

Marcos representatives to open a satellite campus here by fall..While the

city works out the technicalities, Suzanne Lingold, assistant dean of

extended studies for the university, is mapping out the curriculum that will

include both day and evening classes. She said an accelerated nursing

program to serve 40 students is expected to be offered at the Temecula

campus. "Our first priority is to get nursing here," she said.

Here's a link to the Cal State San Marcos A-BSN. It looks like applications are due on May 23rd for the fall cohort. http://www.csusm.edu/el/acceleratedbsn/how_to_apply.php
