Are any of you starting to get anxious about the forthcoming decisions? We have another month or so yet to know, but I still want to know NOW! :innerconf ... Wanna share in the waiting process? Have you heard anything about the # of people they are accepting? Anything?

Was anyone nominated for a UCLA fellowship? I just got an email today saying I was.. very unexpected! It definitely sways my decision towards UCLA more and more.

I received an email as well...definitely shocking! Which schools are you deciding between? The email made my decision much more difficult...aah!!!

Congrats RedHead! :yeah: Does a nomination mean that you receive it, or are you in a candidate pool where it will be awarded at a later date? Would it cover full tuition?

Same here! Nothing like some $ to sway me, lol. I am deciding between John Hopkins and UCLA right now. I have an interview at CSUF also, but it's pretty much the same program as UCLA , only 3 years long, so I'm doubtful I'll go there.

Asherah, thank you :) I think the nominated part just means they nominated me to receive the award. The email pretty much says you will getting x amount spread out over these quarters- that sort of thing. It says in order to accept you have to fill out the FAFSA. It's not the whole tuition- i WISH it was of course. hehe. but every little bit helps.

I'm having a tough time too--between UCSF and UCLA. I also have an interview for CSUF...are you going to your interview now that you know you've got John Hopkins and UCLA?

Has everyone already taken the required Epidemiology course? I still have to take it, and I would prefer to take it online...anyone know of any online options? I found one, but wanted to see if anyone else has found others. Thanks!

i thought there was a lab included in the epi course. if there's an online option, i would love to take it! has the course that you're considering been approved as a transferrable course?

Funny you should mention that- I was looking at the schedule of courses for summer at UCLA SON today and saw the epi class. It does have a lab. I too would like to take it online if that is available. Does anyone know how much a class like that runs and do you have to be admitted to the SON to take it? Do you have to be an admitted student to take SON classes at UCLA in general? UCLA Extension permits concurrent enrollment in university classes (not in Law or Medicine however).

Hey guys, I only know of one online Epi class through UCLA. Anyone can take Summer Extension courses at UCLA, you don't need to be an enrolled student, it's just cheaper if you are. Dr. Frerichs offers EPI 100 online (for the second or third year in a row now). I hear it's pretty easy but I took him for the sit down class. It's very structured and you just have to make a trip to campus for a final exam, not too bad right? He's a great professor though and I would highly recommend him.

It's also only 6 weeks long and ends in July. It will cost about $522 bucks though. Here is the fee structure: http://www.summer.ucla.edu/EnrollRegister/feechart.htm

I know that some of the CSUs are offering Epi over the summer, CSUN is one off the top of my head, but they are in-class courses so you have to be able to drive there in the middle of the day.

Let me know if you have any other questions about Epi, I took it about four years ago at UCLA. The material is very interesting and completely applied.

hey guys, i took epi through ucla extension concurrent enrollment. i paid about $500 to take the general epi course (with lecture aka lab component) in the school of public health. it was taught by prof. malmgren and if you get the chance to take it with her, you absolutely should. she is a really great teacher, one of the best i've had--really funny and gets you excited about the course.

in regards to taking it online, just to give something else to consider, i've heard that most of the mecn students ended up taking epi over the summer at the son and it was a great way for them to bond before the grind began in sept.

Does anyone know anything about the structure of their program, specific to when they do clinicals in relation to classwork? I forgot what was said in Orientation...do they begin right away or after the first couple of quarters?

I received my admission seat to UCLA's MECN program. The program begins in Sept. 2008, and clinical rotations do not begin until April 2009. So no, clinicals do not begin right away, which is GREAT. I really wouldn't like the classes and exams piled up each week WITH 12-hour clinical rotations in the same week.

I am thinking of declining my seat at UCLA to attend a different school though. I have a few more weeks to think!!! :banghead:

In regards to Epi, I was looking at an online class through BYU..it's the only one I could find, and it was approved by the dept. Thank you for the info on UCLA's online option...didn't know that exists!

Has anyone on the waiting list gotten an update from Shelli? It seems like the waiting process just goes on and on.
