Hi y'all
Just wanted to see if there are any CSUDH MEPN Fall 2008 applicants out there who would like to join me in the wait. Does anyone know if interviews are finished? I had mine on April 10th. Does anyone know how accurate the school is with their first week of June deadline of notification? Hope to hear from somebody:wink2:
Have been trying to find more info from fellow MEPN students, and I'm so glad I found this site!
Will any of you be working while in the program? I plan to work part-time at least so I have some additional income, but wonder if it'll be too hectic. Does anyone know if that's do-able, or is the program so intensive that I won't be able to work?
I had trouble setting up my CSUDH e-mail account. I ended up having to call tech. services (Marian? 310-243-2045) and she ended up straightening out the problem. I'm able to login now. Call her and leave your name and student ID# if you are still having problems.
I had a problem enrolling in the classes too last week. I was able to sign up but it wouldn't let me finish enrolling and said I would have to go to admissions in person to straighten it out. I tried again online today and was able to finish enrolling including MSN 507L.
Thanks for the financial aid info NOTREALLYANURSE. I'm going to need all the help I can get since I guess I don't qualify for a grant. They offered me unsubsidized and subsidized loans but it's only enough to cover the tuition and books.
nursetobe_socal: I thought about working part-time but with a full time class schedule and the added necessity of keeping a B average in every class I think it's going to be pretty hard. I'm not going to work the first semester and if I think I have the time I might try to get a per-diem job later on in the program.

I agree with Code3EMT, I think that we will be very busy with outside class work like homework, getting ready for clinical rotations by having to go the day before, and still maintaining some kind of personal life for sanity sake, i think Code3EMT made a good suggestion by testing the waters the first semester and then deciding if you can handle a part-time job, you can also ask chachingdy who just joined the forum and she is a cohort 2 student

i am still having trouble signing up for my classes, i just tried right now, hmm, has anybody else tried?
Hi MEPN 3 cohort!I am from MEPN cohort 2. I welcome you all to the program. Best of luck!
Maria:yeah:
Thanks for joining in, Maria. Do you have any advice for our group? How crazy was it for all of you the first year? Did it allow for any outside work (job) at all? What has been the hardest part of the program?
Denise
Volunteerpioneer, me too! At first I thought that it was my computer since I was trying to set up popmail....but yes I was able to log into my csudh with no problem. Also, I did not see that Mr. Escamilla enrolled us in for the other courses. He said by 8/8. Is it just me? Is everyone else enrolled?
I checked last Thursday and I was enrolled in all my classes; check today, otherwise you should notify Jorge.
Yay, i was signed up for my classes, so that's done,
out of curiosity, did anybody get the MMR booster, was it expensive (student health center said they are out of them and that they will be costing 55 dollars)? can you go anywhere to get it? its too late for me to get titers so i was looking to just get the booster
financial aid office told me that i could write up a letter requesting more financial aid in loans, and had to give reasons why and a specific amount, the lady said it would be unsubsidized loans and that the money would probably get to me by the end of September but in the meanwhile to accept any financial aid i was offered now, and that money i will receive the first week of school
has anybody been placed for clinical rotations?

The financial aid office told you we won't receive our checks until the first week of school?? I thought I read somewhere that we will get it 2 weeks before school starts..
no, i haven't heard anything about where i will go for my rotations..
Hi Cohort 3,
Yes it is true. There is no social life for the first semester. The hardest part of MEPN is adjusting to the schedule and the demands of the program. However, as long as you are all determined and flexible, nothing's gonna stop you.
The next semesters become easier as we all learned to expect the unexpected. I would recommend not working at all. Between clinic, classes and outside obligations, you will be swamped. My best advice is to keep up with your readings and find study buddies that will share chapter outlines with you.
Best of luck to all of you. You will love this program because it will challenge you emotionally, academically and maybe physically sometimes. Remember to study smart and don't let the kinks in the system get you down. And always stay on the good side of the faculty advisor.... And your classmates are your best advocates so work as a team!
Maria

tomato 74,
you're so lucky! you got through to financial aid?!
i too must fill out an appeal. did they say that they would allow a faxed form? [i'm trying to speed up the process]
i am too having issues with my toromail account.
here's a list of good private loan options:
http://www.myrichuncle.com [this company actually looks at your major and your g.p.a. not just your credit score]
http://www.discoverstudentloans.com/ [they currently offer special rates and allow 15 years to pay off]
http://www.finaid.org/loans/privatestudentloans.phtml [this link is a must/list of some of the best private loans at the best rates]
hope that helps
note: look to your local credit union as well for a private loan. i think that may be my next move!
