Any CSUDH MEPN Fall 2008 Applicants out there?

Published

Hi y'all

Just wanted to see if there are any CSUDH MEPN Fall 2008 applicants out there who would like to join me in the wait. Does anyone know if interviews are finished? I had mine on April 10th. Does anyone know how accurate the school is with their first week of June deadline of notification? Hope to hear from somebody:wink2:

I already purchased my books online too--all except the APA style book. The Pharmacology book is huge like Patho. Guess I need to make room somewhere for all of this. My clinical site is Kaiser West LA. Are any of you there? See you all next week. I plan on getting some full days at the beach next week on non-meeting days so I can hold the relaxing memories through the semester.

hello everyone,

did anyone purchase the fundamentals for nursing book, it didn't show up in the list of required materials when i got the list from the bookstore, but it shows up for the syllabus for the class,if so, where could i find it for cheap. A PDA is also under required materials for the class syllabus for one of the classes, does anyone know if that information is accurate, im a little surprised of that requirement, im a little frustrated that the books are not the same as the list in the bookstore, i feel like im missing books now,

Ya I bought the fundamentals book. The one printed in 2004 is $6 on half.com (the syllabus tells us to get the 2005 print, but there's only 04 and 07). And I purchased the Palm Z22 on eBay for $37 because I have a feeling she will tell us it's required anyways.. and I wanted to get it cheaper online and in time instead of having to buy it for more last minute. There are a bunch of "required reference" books for 507, but I am holding off on those because they are all very expensive, and some are Med-Surg books so maybe we don't even need those right now.

The book certainly isn't listed as required at the bookstore (and is listed as "special order, ie not available), but the syllabus has us reading 6 chapters the first week. Hmmm.

quick question...

When the rest of you accepted your financial aid package did it give you a disbursement date that has past? or better yet what disbursement date did they give you?

Seems like they were moving in slow motion with my package. I had to email them [phone is impossible] just for them to post my award package.

mine was scheduled to be disbursed on 8/20, and even though it wasn't disbursed exactly that day, it eventually got disbursed recently, but not everything got disbursed even though all my paperwork has been turned in, financial aid is having difficulties i guess because things have been going pretty slow and there is always a huge line for the office on campus

I haven't received funds. I got a generic e-mail from financial aid last week that said this:

Fall 2008 financial aid balance checks are scheduled to be mailed during the first week of classes (September 2 – 5, 2008).

Hey Denise,

I am worried about the readings; we faced this same predicament in my pathophys class; but what we did was divide up the chapters, make outlines, discuss and share with one another.

See you today in class everyone :wink2:

Hey Marie,

It looks like we are following your lead and splitting up the chapters! I joined as you suggested :)

Good luck in lab/class tomorrow!

Hay ya'll. I'm new to this website/forum as i really don't have any nursing background.

Here's my story, I'll make it short but sweet :specs:

I got my Bachelors Degree in Liberal Studies back in June 2007. At the same time, I also got my Multiple Subject credential. Looking for a teaching job is a struggle for me. I've been a substitute teacher since I graduated from college. Then I realized, it was not worth it. I don't feel like teaching anymore. I only pursued teaching cuz I love working with kids. I wanted to switch to nursing career while I was still undergad, but my ex-boyfriend stopped me from doing it (stupid me! :angryfire).

Now, I'm going for my Master's Degree in Special Education at CalState Dominguez Hills, but I wanna switch to the nursing program. I've heard of MEPN way back 2007, but my ex didn't want me to do it. Now, I really wanna do it and no one can stop me!I have friends, family and a new bf who are very supportive for my career move/change

I am taking all prereuisites (6 of them only) at Cerritos College and CSUDH this coming Spring 2010 so hopefully I can get in the FALL 2010. The thing is, I don't have any nursing/hospital/clinis experience at all. I'm kinda worried about doing portfolios and stuff as I don't know what am I going to put there. Also, how long is the wait time after you finished your preprequisites? ?Please advise.

I'm turning 30 this December 28 and feels like I'm getting old for a career change. I'm still single, but no stable job yet..just have bachelors degree:cry:. I wanna save up money and have a stable job/life. Please advise me on what should I do on this career change I'm making.

You guys can send me an instant message here..or reply back please! I need an encouragement here as I am really losing hope :crying2:

As far as your age goes, I really don't believe that should be a concern. People in our MEPN group range in age from 20s to 50s. I am the kind that believes it's never too late to go back to school. But before you embark on this journey, it is probably wise to figure out if nursing is for you. My classmates have many different experiences that have convinced them that nursing was for them. Some have had personal experiences with nurses as patients or as family members of patients. Others have gone the traditional route of interning at a hospital and shadowing a nurse. I believe it is important to find your inspiration to pursue nursing as this will serve as your motivation throughout your nursing career. Furthermore, nursing is not an easy job and it can be very draining, both emotionally and physically. In fact, nursing in general has a high turnover rate, which is evidence that nursing can be very challenging. With that said, you could probably gain health care experience in a number of settings. Perhaps volunteering at your local hospital can be an option for you.

I can definitely empathize with what you are going through in terms of pursuing a career that at one point not everyone around you supported. I, too, had my share of obstacles of getting to nursing school. At times, I seriously considered not continuing but my genuine interest in nursing kept me going.

As far as the process is concerned, I can tell you how it was for me, although i think many people go about it differently. I graduated from undergrad in Summer 2006, took the 06-07 school year to take pre-reqs full-time, applied throughout the 07-08 year, and was attending school by Fall 2008. Specifically for CSUDH, I attended the workshop in February, turned in portfolio in March, interviewed in April and was notified by June.

Lastly, I just wanted to say that I commend you for taking an interest in nursing. The nursing profession definitely needs more people like you who are well-educated and willing to pursue a higher degree of education. It also seems that your current situation (i.e. no kids) is suitable for your plans. Although, there are a substantial number of people in our program who have spouse and kids, so it can be done.

If you have any other questions you can reply to this post and I will be happy to help you with what I can.

p.s. If like you working with children, you can still do that as a Pediatric nurse.

Hi Jess08

Thanks for the reply. That's what I wanna be..a Pediatric Nurse. But since I already have my Bachelors in other field, but no nursing experience..I wanna take this chance to apply in the program. I need to learn/study basic nursing before I specialized on something, right?!

I currently go to Dominguez Hills for my Masters in Special Education. But I figured, I can't do this anymore. I can't teach anymore! When I was a kid, I wanted to become a Pediatrician...but I don't think being a doctor is my thing. My siblings are all in the medical field, except for my parents who were both retired teachers. So I guess it runs in the family.

I have some questions, hope you don't mind:

So are you done with the program or you're still finishing?

Do you think is there any possibility that I could get into the program by Fall 2010. I'm going to start to take Prerequisites in Spring 2010 only (only 6 classes. Some I took when I was undergraduate)

Where did you take your Prerequisites at?

I already know that nursing is not for everbody, just like teaching. But I like challenges and learning different routines =). Im really interested and motivated to do this while i'm still young, single and have energy to study =)..
