Any CSUDH MEPN Fall 2008 Applicants out there?

Published

Hi y'all

Just wanted to see if there are any CSUDH MEPN Fall 2008 applicants out there who would like to join me in the wait. Does anyone know if interviews are finished? I had mine on April 10th. Does anyone know how accurate the school is with their first week of June deadline of notification? Hope to hear from somebody:wink2:

Hey, I just saw your post. I was wondering if there was anyone else out there for CSUDHs mepn program. I'm rushing home to check my mail every day now, but nothing yet. I don't know anything about when/how they notify everyone. I'm really hoping to get in. Let me know when you hear something.

hey deni_in_LA,

i've seen your posts on another thread that I would check: for the UCLA MECN, its good to hear im not the only one waiting for CSUDH. According to their information from the workshop, they were supposed to get back to us the first week of June, yikes, next week!! im on pins and needles, did you already get into the university, or does MEPN tell you first, my application status on my.csudh just says application complete, will be reviewed for admission, how bout yours?

Same thing here. All I know is that my application was complete. It's going to be a long week if we don't hear until Friday. Do you know how many portfolios were turned in or if they are accepting 24 or 30 applicants? I think they got a lot more applications than in the past. This program amazes me with all the effort they put into the selection process.

I don't know anything about the statistics about this program. I usually find out about those things from the threads on this website because other people have called and inquired and then posted information, but it seems you and i are the only ones because i can't find any other threads for the MEPN program for Fall 08. Even old threads from previous years for this program seem really vague with very little posts. This makes me think that they don't have that many people applying, what is it that makes you think they got more applications than in the past this year? The workshop I attended was the one before the last one, the one in February that got postponed to the beginning of March, there were only about 9 people in my workshop and I know one of them got into the UCLA MECN from reading the person's posts on the UCLA MECN thread. How was your workshop in terms of size?

I was at the workshop in late October---there were about 20 of us I think. Jorge Escamilla told us that the year before there were about 165 inquiries about the program, with 100 at workshops and eventually 65 portfolios submitted with 35 accepted into the program.

For this application period (just as of Oct.) he said there had been 500 inquiries. I saw a lot of portfolios in his room in November. I just now saw in my notes from orientation that he said they have "resources" for 30 students this time.

I met one of the now-graduated students when I was in the office. She had very good things to say about the program. Do you have any other experiences/impressions of the program? I agree, there is nothing posted basically.

Thanks for all your information, it is very insightful. I think even if the number of applicants doubled, those are better odds than other Entry-level Masters program. Since the MEPN program is pretty new (I believe we are applying to their third cohort), there isn't much information out there. However, when i search for CSUDH, as a school of nursing, at this website, it seems people in other nursing programs are happy with the school. That's great that you were able to talk to a recent graduate. Did she say anything about the difficulty of the program or what she thought of the clinical rotations?

I was attracted to this program because of its selection process. Although the portfolio is extensive and it took quite some work and time to put together, I think it was worth it because it gave us (the applicants), a chance to show our capabilities and potential. I like that they consider the person as a whole rather than just numbers on a transcript. I'm really nervous about this week, I wish you the best and I hope that we both get in:D

Nothing in the mail today for me.

The student I spoke with told me to call her anytime with questions, which I plan to do soon. She said that some students seems to pull all nighters, but she studied generally studied from ~8 to 10 or 11 pm every night after she put her new baby to bed, as well as during the daytime when time permitted. She said it was a hard program, but didn't seem crazed by it. She had no complaints. We didn't talk long, tho, so I don't know any details.

Good luck this week.

Same here, nothing at all

So is this school your first choice? I applied to a couple of other Masters programs but no luck there. I was also offered a spot for an accelerated BSN but it will be costing a pretty penny. I am really hoping to get into CSUDH for a lot of reasons and one of them is financial reasons, this program is way more affordable then other programs out there, and plus, one of the facilities for clinical rotations is the VA hospital in West LA, i took a tour of it one day because I have a friend who works there, it was really interesting how the hospital works, everything is computerized which minimizes errors, and the drugs in ICU are dispensed out of a machine that looks like a huge space age vending machine, it was really fascinating. well here goes another day...i'll let you know if anything comes my way

Yes I am still waiting for news from CSUDH. Believe it or not I did the first workshop back in Aug. 2007 and had my interview last Sept. They said they would tell us by June 1rst! I really want to go to CSUDH because of the lower cost and time of the program.. otherwise I have to go to a private school that cost an arm and leg as well :(

I couldn't stand it any longer. I tried to call Lisette a minute ago, but she didn't pick up. I'll let you both know what she says as soon as I reach her. If I have the nerve I may even ask if they will tell us if we got in over the phone. Jess, it was interesting to hear you mention the VA, since that is where I currently work (WLA). I do think the nurses here are pretty satisfied from what I have heard. I really want to get into this program too. Hopefully we will all make it!

I too cant stand it any more  im going crazy with this waiting !!! I called Jorge to see if I could find out anything but he didn't answer either. I too will post if I find anything out. By the way, deni_in_LA, who is Lisette? i feel like i should know but I don't, oops. Jorge has been my only contact with the MEPN program. That's cool that you work in the VA, i'm sure that will help your application.

welcome to our little thread, so when do you have to tell the other school about your acceptance of their offer, my deadline is this friday june 6, and i also have to send them a hefty deposit check if I want to reserve a spot. I also have to find a new job because mine ends this week, i know this is irrelevant, but i just wanted to add to the effect of me feeling like everything is piling up this week. Thanks for letting me vent :)
