Any CLC students to start a forum?

Hi, I'm a first semester student at CLC and would love to meet others to chat about a variety of topics!!!

I don't remember what exactly came in the letter, but I think there was something I had to send back, accepting the seat for the program.

8am is the time that registrations begin, that's why I set my reminder for that time, so I can get on and be one of the first to sign up. ;) I think I had a problem the first time I tried to sign-up, where they didn't have me in the system, but since I found that out at 8am that morning, I just called admissions and it got fixed right away.

It was easy.

Awesome! Thanks - now I won't be up all night trying to register!!! :lol2:

Any other current, former and future students out there? We've started clinicals and things are getting busy really fast. I've learned alot already. Good experience so far!!

Hello!

I am a future nursing student heading for the Spring 08 program. I have completed all my pre-req's as well as all the other courses - micro, intercultural cmm, etc. I got a 98 on the pre-entrance exam, filled out the screening and last week I started on my blood work. This semester I'm taking an Ethics class and spacing out the financial part of the cost for required titers, blood work and healthcare provider CPR.

Anyone else in my boat? Anyone else from my neck of the woods? CLC is a 44-mi roundtrip for me and it sure would be nice to find someone to carpool with come January!

Hi there!

My name is Lori and I am actually going for Spring '08 start as well. I'll be attending night classes though, so not sure that we'll be going at the same time. I finished my classes this past spring and I didn't get in for Fall, so Spring it is! I got a 92 on my entrance and I haven't started doing anything (such as bloodwork) just yet!! Are you getting your bloodwork done at your doctors office? Is this just for the CBC? Oh, do you have all the information as far as what we will need to be admitted to the program? I am like you - I like to get a head start on all of that!!! If you wouldn't mind sharing, that would be awesome!!! You can private message me if you'd like!

So, we can certainly try to help each other through the next couple of years!!! It's nice to have someone in the same boat!!!

I am also married and have a 2 year old daughter AND a full-time job. Let's just say I have my work cut out for me, so to have others I can go to with questions is great and vice-versa!!!

Let's keep in touch!!! Talk to you soon!

to start the program you'll send in a form saying you accept a position in the program. it'll come with your acceptance letter. also, it'll give you a date that you have to sign up by or you lose your spot. you have to go to orientation so you'll have to schedule that day off of work. ours was on a monday from 9-3. you'll get your book list at orientation. they'll tell you to start getting your white only scrub pants (jc penney outlet is awesome-at gurnee mills) and clc nursing blue scrub top (only at select scrub stores...one in libertyville and one at hawthorn in vernon hills). you do not need to have all of your health requirements done until the third week of the semester when you start clinicals. they give alot at clc for cheap and add it to your bill. you can see what your insurance covers. they'll do a drug test at orientation that costs $30. you have to pay that the day of the test at the cashier's office. comfortable white shoes for clinical too. oh, and a rolling backpack if you don't have one. get to know your classmates (there are only 9 others in your class) because they'll be a great resource and you need people to practice with in the lab. don't get so caught up with the health stuff, you'll have plenty of time. the thing that takes the most time is the 2 step tb test, i think it's $4 total at clc but required. your doctor's office may not even do this type of tb but as a healthcare worker clc requires it...cheap at the school. if i think of anything else i'll let you guys know.

I am also hoping for the Spring of 2008. Are you looking for day or night? I am going for days.

I thought about starting the bllod work at CLC, but haven't gotten there yet. I will probably look into it in the next couple of weeks.

I too am looking at putting quite a few miles on my car - I am in McHenry.

Good luck!!

Stop by the CLC Health Center and they'll give you a list of required blood work, immunizations and titres. I inquired w/my Blue Cross/Blue Shield if they would pay and I got such the run around without a specific answer. I opted the CLC route and its pretty inexpensive. Even though we don't need everything complete by day one, I am opting for doing it ahead of time, mainly for financial reasons. The physical exam and TB test will wait until I get my letter in my hand as it is a yearly requirement. By the way, even if you have proof of previous immunizations (measles, mumps, etc) you will still be required to get titres drawn for all of these to prove immunity. You only need to start one shot of the Hep B series (3 shots over a course of a couple of months) to start your clinicals.

Oh yeah...I'm aiming for days.

you rock!!! thanks so much for all that info...that helps me out big time!!! did you get all of your shots/tests done at clc? and you need to get a physical as well, right? and knowing if it isn't done before we start is a relief as well, but i want to try to get it done prior to starting. thanks for the tips on scrubs as well!!! are these the colors we have to wear throughout the 4 years? not real convenient when aunt flo is visiting!! and what kind of shoes did you end up getting and from where?

and only 9 people in your class? wow!! i assumed since they had like 20 openings at night that they were all in one class, but they must have a couple of classes going on?

Well, you may luck out and have some clinicals out that way!! I'm afraid I WILL have clinicals out there!! I'm all the way by Lake Michigan for work!

Ok, here is what may seem like some stupid questions, but I'm going to ask it anyway.

1) How do I know if I have certain immunizations already? Is that something I have to have from my childhood or go back to my docs office for (which I'm sure they wouldn't have still)? I can say for sure I have not had anything after my school immunizations, so do I just get them all again?

2) If I have had these immunizations already, but I don't have documentation of it, if I get them again, it won't do me any harm, right?
