Anti-vax nurses? Are you serious?

Published

We were discussing the Disneryland measles outbreak at work, and I was appalled to find some of my co-workers refuse to vaccinate their kids. They (grudgingly) receive the vaccines they need to remain employed, but doubt their safety/necessity for their kids.

I must say, I am absolutley stunned. How can one be a nurse and deny science?

As a nurse, you should darn well know what the scientific method entails and what phrases such as "evidence based" and "peer reviewed" mean.

I have to say, I have lost most of my respect for the nurses and mistrust their judgement; after all, if they deny science, on what premise are they basing their practices?

So go on, get your vaccinations, eat crap, use products with ingredients known to cause cancer, drink your fluoridated water, sit on these message boards spewing negativity and hate. See where it gets you in life.

Fluoridation??? Really? What's next, we never really landed on the moon, those photos were faked on a back lot at one of the movie studios??

I think we're back to this:

There is a ton of research about gut inflammation out there. The gut is being called the second brain, and it has been found that Parkinson's begins in the gut as well as many other diseases. GMO's play a major role in this because they contain bacteria that affect our gut microbiome.

The first one and the fourth are junk from a biased website. The fourth article is not peer-reviewed it is just something someone wrote and put on website. That defeats the whole purpose of trying to have scientific integrity, which if I remember right is one of the things you were complaining about.

I am aware of the NIH microbiome project and know one of the nurse scientists working on the project. I know for a fact that the research there does not support the conclusions you are trying to come up with.

You really need to look at those articles you googled. One of top articles actually had a healing effect from one of the GMOs.

This is just another example that you do not understand how to critically evaluate scientific literature.

It doesn't affect you. You have no right to force me to inject something into my body that I do not want. Something that I feel will cause more harm than good. I'm pretty sure there will be a revolution if it gets to the point where people think they can force such a thing on someone else.

That is incorrect. It does effect me and everyone else when other people willfully choose not to be vaccinated for non-medical reasons.

You really need to study your history on vaccines. There has been mandatory vaccinations since the 1500s in China and 1800s in western countries. The U.S. has a long history of mandating vaccines and forcefully quarantining people deemed public health threats.

In all those cases except for an exceptionally small population of people no one has ever mounted any kind revolution. History of Vaccines — A Vaccine History Project of The College of Physicians of Philadelphia This probably has mainly to do with a couple of reasons: The science behind vaccines is without a doubt effective in preventing vaccine preventable diseases, and the leaders of all those countries are often the first to be vaccinated.

I knew it. All those dead astronauts and moon rocks were just faked for publicity. :whistling:

Everything you have said in your post has basically no scientific basis.

The point in my post on page 78 #770 was to explain to the original poster why parents choose not to vaccinate. That is what that person had asked. I responded with reasons why. Whether or not you agree is irrelevant.

I'm done here. Have a nice life!

I seem to have the same opinion of your posts. They are totally irrelevant, and they lack any legitimate reasons to not be vaccinated.

Just like most anti-vaxers. Once you get rebutted and challenged to produce actual data, you leave.

I didn't realize there was so much more on the table than vaccinations.

Personally, I resist "eating crap". ;)

I said it before and I'll say it again (as is the case with many others on this thread): you claim your right to not vaccinate your kids is equal to my right TO vaccinate. That would hold water IF your kids were kept in your house, and never allowed off your own property. If your kids never went to a public park, library, school or event where people gather in crowds.

No, your right to put my kids at risk is NOT an equal footing to be on....and my guess is that the same Public Health mandates that kept Typhoid Mary prisoner on an island (because she insisted her right to spread disease trumped others' rights to not become infected) might NOT stay a thing of the past.

At the very least, eroding the personal freedoms of those who insist on putting others in harms way should become an expectation. Sounds harsh? Gosh, where's our American rights to do anything we want? Here comes another Amendment....And that I'd back 100%.

It would be nice for once, if one of them would have an epiphany in regards to all the valid research provided and decide they should reconsider their position.
