Annoying words/behaviours during report

What annoys you the most when receiving report? For me is the: 'pt x, y or z had voided or had a BM for me! Really?? I am pretty sure pt x y and z did not void or had a bm for you or anyone else except themselves! It irks me to no end when I hear that! And I hear it almost every day! :***:

OK so I paid attention. It's not the older nurses who say that. It's the younger, off orientation nurses who report bms and voiding as "for them"!

Is that way of them trying to fit though???

What if I confront them????

Confront them because you're annoyed? Just suck it up. Lots of things are going to annoy you; get used to it. Save the confrontations for legitimate safety issues.

My favorite was back when I was working strictly locked down male psych patients. The second shift nurse always wore a sweater about 2 sizes too small and it never failed - during every report she would mention that several patients were sexually inappropriate with her. Well duh. She dressed like she was cheap and our male manager refused to make her dress appropriately. So having a patient have a BM "for" a nurse is pretty low on things that would irritate me during report.

There's legal and there's hospital policy, and nurses get in trouble for not following policy.

That's

all well and good but it's not a "medication error" if the doctor's order doesn't match what they take at home.

I didn't say it was. The error would occur if the patient was given the wrong medication or wrong dose based on wrong orders.

I find it strange that I'm given info in report that is easily accessible to me. Blood sugars, vitals and PRN administrations.

I really only want to know if the pain meds work for that patient and if anything was really way off. It also irks me when I'm asked this kind of thing because I really don't always think to write it down.

I'm just wondering if they actually mean "on my shift", I know I sometimes use that phrase (although not in that context) when I'm trying to convey that something did or didn't happen on my shift vs. the shift I took report from.

For instance, I might say "I was told Mrs. Jones had a blood pressure of 162/82 but it was 130/80 for me".

Its almost as if "for me" actually means "while under my care"

idk, I just know whenever I use that phrase I'm trying to make it clear that I had different results than previous shifts, whatever it may be.

I wouldn't find that annoying and I'm not entirely sure why it bothers you this much. What I find annoying is getting report from a nurse who basically can't tell me what the heck is going on with the patient, why they are there, etc. Important, safety kind of things. If you've been with a patient for 12 plus hours, surely you should be able to give the important details during shift report.

I really don't care how nurses choose to say it, as long as they give me the info.

it seems pretty petty to laugh at "fluffy" or "for me." You're able to do your job, aren't you?
