Anatomy Summer 2006 Club

Published

okay you guys....everyone that is taking anatomy this summer post away here

hehe this is going to be an interesting summer

any sites will be greatly appreciated lol :chair:

Well, I got a 94% on my first lecture exam, with extra credit it bumps up to 103%, which I'm going to siphoning off of the rest of the term because this stuff just gets harder with the passing weeks. My class must have a bunch of smartypants in it because our class average is over 100%! My instructor says it's the best he's ever seen in all his 30 years of teaching.

I breathed a sigh of relief after we got our grades back, but it is right back to it for me because I've got to learn about 135 origins/insertions/actions for the muscles. >.

I just found out today that we're going to be working with a human cadaver next week, which I wasn't expecting but I am appreciative of. How 'bout the rest of you? What are your labs like?

i'm taking a&p 1 this summer over 10 weeks.

is anyone else's class using the hole's 10th edition book?

diamond:

I am using the hole's 10ed. too, I think the book is ok, what about you?

i think the book is pretty easy to understand. did you go to the website for the text? they have practice tests, crossword puzzles, flashcards, etc. for each chapter. i've been doing them just for fun, in addition to my studying.

my teacher is covering a LOT of stuff that isn't in the book, though. but i find that both following him and reading the book closely helps me feel like i get it.

what chapter are you on? we just finished ch 2, and we're having a test on 1 and 2 next thursday.

I'm taking A & P 2 this summer. What are you having trouble on? I found this website to be pretty helpful in studying the endocrine system: http://www.octc.kctcs.edu/gcaplan/anat2/Study%20Guides/Study%20Guide.htm

Also if you go to the home page this instructor has alot of helpful links. This page is saving me right now since my instructor has a very heavy accent and I can't understand a word she says! :uhoh3:

Taking a&p I -we're using Hole's 11th edition, but guess what? I have no book! I'm taking it at the community college I graduated from in 2003 and since I have an Associate's they won't let me use financial aid. I've got kids and no money and it was hard enough coming up with the $360 for the class- I can't afford another $250 for books (even tried to find the 10th edition- but so much going on I can't afford that either). I'm using an anatomy book that someone donated to me. My thoughts are that I'm sure much hasn't changed in the last 10 years (or 200yrs for the anatomy part, haha). So far it's been working ok- the book I have follows his sequence and I've got a perfect score on my 1st lab & quiz. It will be allright!

Meh.

It's 2:30am and I'm studying muscles. Test is on Thursday at 1pm. Why can't I get these actions to stick in my head? :angryfire

I was practicing my flash cards with my husband and he was recalling the answers better than I was! :trout:

I think I can, I think I can....

Got a 96 on first A & P 2 exam! Yay! Now gotta keep it up! Only 4 weeks left!

Its not the bones that are hard, its the markings that I had trouble with. I was given a list with 102 bones I had to know, I knew 95 of them but when I got to the practical, there was only 25 on the test. I wont tell you how upset I was when I knew alot more than what was on there. You will do fine.

I feel your pain. I was wizzing along in my A&P this summer enjoying my 96% average. Then I got to the appendicular skeleton. I have to memorize about 120 bones and landmarks. UGH! This is deadly! I enjoyed the physiology before this...bring it on. But this rote memorization with no context to help me...all these styloid processes and olecranon, etc. For some reason the axial skeleton was easier for me. At my school they gave us a word bank so I thought that would help. HA! The word bank had about double the actual answers and had common mispellings to confuse you. I'm at that unthinkable point of just chucking it and taking the exam and getting a 60% or something and just letting all my other high scores even it out in the end. Unthinkable. I like physiology. I do not like anatomy. This could drive a student to drink. Ok. Done venting.

Well, I took that exam today. I ended up with 100%. Earlier I felt like I could scream. So much studying and I felt like I couldn't get it to stick. Anyway, let this be a lesson to push ahead when it feel impossible. I was just sure this was just too much and i couldn't get all the info. I had resigned myself to a bad grade. Nope! I kept pushing. I need to remind myself of this sometimes.

Congrats on the good grade!

I have a test over that same material on Tuesday. I had an oral quiz over the pectoral girdle, arm & hand yesterday and got 100%. I really went in thinking....I cannot remember the names! They somehow came to me. On Monday, it is an oral quiz on the pelvic girdle, leg and foot. Tuesday, the big test and we move on to muscles. This prof is pretty tough. The first test, he said there were no A's, 4 B's, 5 C's, 1 D and 9 F's. He is an adjunct teacher who was a funeral home director and earning money for a trip to Europe. I was hoping for easier but not so lucky. Also, there are about 5+ people in the class taking this for the second time! There is no way I would do this twice.
