Anatomy Class

I had a killer time in A &P. In fact I ended up dropping it (this was in Dec 99) and after a long break and 3 babies I am starting up my prereqs again. I am not looking forward to that class. My l & d nurse with my last baby said she had to take the class 3 times. So don't feel bad. I will start the class this summer so I don't have much advice but wanted to let you know there are others out there struggling with this one too.

Which part are you having trouble with? I have alot of websites saved that I think will help me this time around.

I'm in my 3rd week of it, and we are just getting to the bones. I am starting to panic a little, as it seems like there are about a million bones in the body. I bought the A and P coloring book and it seems to be helping a little bit. I study and highlight the chapter, do the study questions, and then work on the coloring book. If you're a visual learner this is a great thing! Louisepug :)

I know exactly what you mean. That class is killing me. I had high hopes for working hard for an A (that's what I had in Bio) but now I am holding my breath for a C!!! I have to figure out how to study better, not more. I wish I had some advice, but I guess I will just comiserate. Good luck to us all.

I'm doing really well in A&P. I have already used 2, 150 page notebooks though. there is so much rote memory I just writre stuff over and over and over. I use flash cards for the muscles, origin, insertion and action. I also try to develop mneumonics to remember things as well. Good luck!

I can totally relate with ya'll. I'm in my 7th week of class and it is definitely tough! I'm doing ok but I have to study and we have what is called directed-study. It is where a former student(who made an A) comes to the lab to help out those of us who need it. I think that really helps getting that extra time in the lab. Good luck to all.

I didn't have a lot of trouble with A&P the first time around (in the 80's), but when I retook it, it was quite a challenge!

My daughter--also a member of this board--recently made some changes in her study habits that made a huge difference: she started getting A's!

I'll see if I can get her attention, maybe she'll share.....

A & P I and II can be killer courses. Especially if you get a tough prof or your school uses them to weed out folks.

I was an "A" student in my master's program, but struggled to get an A- in the above (II ends in three weeks) at a local CC.

Don't fall behind in these classes or your butt'll be done.

3 hints that helped me: Gray's Anatomy coloring book. It is in most bookstores and online. The coloring takes a little time but really helps plant the info in your head.

Really utilize lab time. See if you can use lab during other times of the day. Handle the bones and whatever tactile aids they have available.

Get in a study group of 2-3 people who will STUDY, not talk or whine about how tough the class is. Each person gets a weekly assignment based on your class assignment. That person "teaches" the others in the group. You have to learn something before you can teach it.

i'm not taking it yet, but I do have the coloring books and hope to get a head start! I'm nervous (thanks to all of you :chuckle ) about this class, so any pre-reading/studying I can do will only be to my benefit!

I ended up passing both I & II with and A, but it was difficult at the beginning of I. I used the coloring books (they REALLY helped ingrain the info.). I also spent as much time in the lab as possible. 3 of us formed a study group. We would meet at the library, at each other's homes, and in the lab outside of class. I also bought Anatomy flash cards. These things together with A HUGE amount of time and effort, paid off for me.

Gosh I just loved Anatomy!! It *is* a lot of work but I thought it was really fascinating. I made an A in both Anatomy w/lab and Physiology w/lab and I know you can too.

For Anatomy the coloring book did help me a lot, some people it doesn't though (it wont for physio). I would just go over and over and over it and do self quizzes until I got it all down (and I still remember it to this day!). It takes a lot of time to study it and it is a lot of memorization.
