Hello, I have tried three attempts at Gordon College Nursing program and was denied each time. I ended up changing my major to Healthcare Information Management because I was determined to leave there with a degree. Now I have completed all of my sciences, along with all my prequistes for the BSN program. I was so distraught:crying2: by not getting in the ADN that I gave up on nursing when it has always been a DREAM:redbeathe FOR ME TO BE A NURSE. I never made any attempts to apply at other schools because of me being denied at Gordon College, but everyone kept telling me not to give up & keep on trying. I really don't know what my gpa is but when I left there it was a 2.95 gpa. I am not a "A" student but I have taken all my sciences; A&P I&II made a C, B and Micro an A along with Chem I and II which I made a B in those classes. I made a very low score on TEAS exam and now I see it has been changed to the 5.0. What do I need to do to get in the program. I am applying with several schools for Spring 2011 because my sciences expire in 2012. I didn't apply for Fall 2010 because I had gave up!! Please help me in choosing which direction to go. I don't know what to do!! Should I go for my dream which is nursing or get my Bachelor's in Health Information Management and then go back to nursing but I am getting older not younger. Someone help me with some advice, please!!!!

Maybe consider LPN route and then bridging over if you worry that your GPA may not be competitive enough but then again you may have to retake your prereqs given you note they are about to expire. Also, check around to different schools because some may have longer expiration dates on sciences (i.e 10 yrs vs 5 yrs) which would allow you to get LPN and then resume RN path at a coomunity college or state school or university

Don't give up. You have two options here.
# 1 option: follow your desire to become a nurse and apply to as many schools as you can. (have you considered applying to out of county/state nursing programs if possible). Retake the Teas test but study really hard to get a good grade on it.
#2 option: if you applied and you are not accepted, then maybe you could get a bachelors in health info managment and get into the accelarated nursing program.
Either opition is good. Just to let you know I was accepted to a BSN program and my overall grade was 2.987, so anything is possible.

Keep in mind though that an accelerated BSN program is a whole new level of challenge even compared to a regular nursing program (which is in itself already challenging enough). If you struggle with school right now you might feel overwhelmed by an accelerated BSN program and might set yourself up for failure.
I too would suggest to go the LPN route. This way, you can start working in the field and use your growing healthcare experience to your advantage as you advance in your education at a pace that best suits you.
Thanks for the advice.:redbeathe I don't see myself going for LPN then bridging over. I am a Registered Medical Assistant and LPN is just as competitive as RN. I am attending Georgia State in the Fall. I am studying hard now for the TEAS exam. I am going to apply with Alabama schools along with Ga schools. I will apply with Gordon College again but I don't see doing LPN when I have completed all of my prequistes. I will just do the BS in HIM then go Nursing later. I was going through a lot during the time I applied with Gordon, because I had two uncles that passed away back to back. Nursing may not be want the Lord has planned. I will try one more time and if I can't get in then I will go for my BS in HIM.
I do believe it can happen. I really do not want to do LPN than bridge over for RN. I don't want to take my sciences over again. I guess I will do the BS in Healthcare Management.

Hi ClassyLady 85. I'm not sure if you are willing to commute, but there are several schools that don't have a time frame on your math or sciences and they are North Ga, West GA and Clayton State. You can take the TEAS test as many times for University of West GA, also they only take the best 3 science scores. West Ga nursing program starts in the Summer, and they have a fulltiime and a part time program. I was just accepted into the nursing program and I love it. I would suggest that you look into these colleges and don't limit yourself to one school.

It might be in your best interest to retake those sciences courses, figure out why you are not able to make As and see if you can change those grades. It would make you a more competitive applicant and help you figure out what you need to do to cut it in nursing school. If you are struggling in the pre-req's, you will struggle even more in the program. Yes, you will have to take more time to do this route, but it beats giving up. Time will pass no matter what.
I would never say you cannot do it; however, nursing school is a huge challenge for most people who ARE excellent students going in. Not everyone is cut out for this and that would be nothing to be ashamed of, but If this is your dream, see if you can figure out what you need to do to elevate your performance prior to giving up. My advice would be to find out why your grades are not up to par (study habits? lack of understanding the material? poor time management? Trouble with motivation day to day?) and then spend some time learning to correct the problem by retaking those classes, then apply for the program. If at that time you still are unable to get in/make better grades, you have your answer. Chances are though if you put in the time, you will raise your performance up to industry standard and be able to go forward.

Don't jump into conclusion!! If being a nurse is your dream, then go for it. Don't give up. I am sure other schools will accept you in the future.
I underestimated my ability and my capability, I kept thinking I would never make it into the program so I lagged so man years. I had low GPA and took a year to take some classes over to raise up the grades, now I just got accepted to the Spring program. So don't give up!! keep trying, try as many schools as possible!! Good Luck!

Honestly I think you should spread out your applications. Apply at every school as far as you're willing to commute. This alone will increase your chances of getting in somewhere. Also, since you have done all the bachelor's prereqs, have you thought about looking into BSN programs?
Good luck!!

I would suggest definately re-taking some of your courses and try as hard as you can to replace some of those with A's, take a lighter course load but bust your a** and your GPA will go up and be more competitive
