Am unable to get in Nursing program

Published

Hello, I have tried three attempts at Gordon College Nursing program and was denied each time. I ended up changing my major to Healthcare Information Management because I was determined to leave there with a degree. Now I have completed all of my sciences, along with all my prequistes for the BSN program. I was so distraught:crying2: by not getting in the ADN that I gave up on nursing when it has always been a DREAM:redbeathe FOR ME TO BE A NURSE. I never made any attempts to apply at other schools because of me being denied at Gordon College, but everyone kept telling me not to give up & keep on trying. I really don't know what my gpa is but when I left there it was a 2.95 gpa. I am not a "A" student but I have taken all my sciences; A&P I&II made a C, B and Micro an A along with Chem I and II which I made a B in those classes. I made a very low score on TEAS exam and now I see it has been changed to the 5.0. What do I need to do to get in the program. I am applying with several schools for Spring 2011 because my sciences expire in 2012. I didn't apply for Fall 2010 because I had gave up!! Please help me in choosing which direction to go. I don't know what to do!! Should I go for my dream which is nursing or get my Bachelor's in Health Information Management and then go back to nursing but I am getting older not younger. Someone help me with some advice, please!!!!

Did you take all of your prereqs at Gordon? I heard they will only accept Gordon Students.

I did not get accepted for Fall, but I assumed it was because I was a transfer. I have taken courses there now so if I don't get in in the Spring I will apply at Emory. I have a good GPA, TEAs score, and a bachelor of health science from the University of Florida. If I don't get in again, I am at a lost for what they are looking for:) Time to move on and spend the money elsewhere.

Also, just wanted to let you know. Gordon has one more TEAs exam this month before the apps are due if you want to retake it. I used the ATI guide and help from allnurses. I scored an 81.8 which I think is decent. Not the most competitive, so if I don't get in I'm considering retaking it myself. I really hope that you try again for Gordon! I really want to go to their program as well. Apps are due july 30. If I don't get in, I will apply for Emory's absn..(really expensive) that is why I want to go to Gordon:) Other schools around here seem to want different prereqs, etc.. This is a lot of work, but I am busting my butt just like you, so hopefully we both will be in a nursing program in 2011. Keep in touch so we know what happens! Good Luck!

I don't know I think its really hard. I don't know many other majors that if you get decent grades you still can't finish your education, its sort of crazy. What about a PA program that is what I plan to do if I don't get into Nursing school, which I will find out in August or September.

I agree. If go the LPN route this will give you time to raise your GPA you will also be taking classes that count towards your ADN degree. Then once you graduate you will only have 3 quarters to go to be an RN. That is one of my options. The RN program is 7 quarters the LPN is 4. So go for a year get your LPN and then enter the RN program. I think that way your pre reqs wouldn't expire either. Or at least they wouldn't matter.

I have heard that to get into the RN program at Gordon, your age is taken into consideration. This is only what I have heard. I've been told by RN students at Gordon that younger people will be put on the waiting list, and the older people will be accepted. Apparently, so many younger applicants have been accepted into the program and dropped out, whereas the older people did not.

I'm going the LPN route myself. 20 years ago, I drank my way out of college so my GPA is in negative numbers.

FWIW North Florida Comm College has a RN that starts in Jan.

Seriously don't give up!! If you really do want to be a nurse then you wont let yourself give up!! I was denied just this fall semester from 11 schools and then FINALLY got accepted into North Ga for fall 2010!! It can and WILL happen!! I only had a 3.1 for North ga..(I have since pulled it up b/c its a year in advance application) and my teas for North GA was only a 72.4. (again I did retake it..but North ga never saw my new grades) I was on the wait list for 2009 and then for this year but they pulled me off right at the last minute. I mean, i had to send my confirmation letter like seriously 2 days after I was accepted. I was a kennesaw state university student and I honestly was denied from KSU 5 times. Clayton State 2 times. Mercer 1 time, West Ga 2 times, Emory 1 time (in 2004) and I even tried for an LPN program and had a 4.0 GPA and made a 86 on the NLN-LPN test and got denied. But I DIDN'T give up!!!! This is what I really want. My mom had cancer for 7 years I was 13-21 years old and I made the decision that this is what I want to do with my life. She did pass away in 2003 and I vowed to complete what she knew I was going after. She always said I would be a great nurse. But anyways, my point is that don't let this competitiveness make you give up. You have only applied to 1 school!!! I mean, I applied to almost every nursing school in GA and couldn't get in. but I really feel like GOD knows how much you can handle..and I wont lie. I was about to give up but had a real "talk" with GOD and cried and asked WHY!?! I was in the process of applying to schools for fall 2011 and the letter came! I couldn't believe it! GOD surely is great!!! SO please don't give up. But do, open up your options it will happen for you if you don't give up!!!!!

oh forgot to mention that gamommy81 is on here and she just got accepted into Gordon nursing school for fall and I know that she had applied to a bunch of schools too. We were both rooting each other on! So if you want you should check out her page and ask her about applying there. She is really nice and I am sure she would love to help you. :) remember don't give up!

I am going to apply with all schools. I have taken all my perquistes. I made a B in Chem I and Chem II. I would like to take A& P I again because I made a C but I was told by my advisor it would make any difference. My english, math, statistics all transferred from another college. I will apply with Gordon College again. Good Luck to you!!!

:up:Yes, I will not give up. I know if you went through all those schools getting denied and you never gave up; then it can happen to me as well. I glad you shared your story with me because you really have made my day. :redpinkheYou are SO right about me worrying about the competitiveness because that is what I am doing, but not anymore. Thank you for that advice!!

No problem!! SOO glad that I was here to help! I am very happy to hear that your not giving up! Yeah, it did really suck getting rejection after rejection..I did cry a lot but picked myself up and kept going. Thats just what you have to do when you want something so bad. So please keep me posted, cause you will get that letter one of these days! :)
