Am unable to get in Nursing program

Published

Hello, I have tried three attempts at Gordon College Nursing program and was denied each time. I ended up changing my major to Healthcare Information Management because I was determined to leave there with a degree. Now I have completed all of my sciences, along with all my prequistes for the BSN program. I was so distraught:crying2: by not getting in the ADN that I gave up on nursing when it has always been a DREAM:redbeathe FOR ME TO BE A NURSE. I never made any attempts to apply at other schools because of me being denied at Gordon College, but everyone kept telling me not to give up & keep on trying. I really don't know what my gpa is but when I left there it was a 2.95 gpa. I am not a "A" student but I have taken all my sciences; A&P I&II made a C, B and Micro an A along with Chem I and II which I made a B in those classes. I made a very low score on TEAS exam and now I see it has been changed to the 5.0. What do I need to do to get in the program. I am applying with several schools for Spring 2011 because my sciences expire in 2012. I didn't apply for Fall 2010 because I had gave up!! Please help me in choosing which direction to go. I don't know what to do!! Should I go for my dream which is nursing or get my Bachelor's in Health Information Management and then go back to nursing but I am getting older not younger. Someone help me with some advice, please!!!!

I don't know I think its really hard. I don't know many other majors that if you get decent grades you still can't finish your education, its sort of crazy. What about a PA program that is what I plan to do if I don't get into Nursing school, which I will find out in August or September.

PA programs also have very high GPA requirements. I ended up as an RN because I was thinking PA. Decided to pursue nursing because of time commitments and family needs. I am entering NP school in the fall.

I applied to 3 schools for an alternate position after I was wait listed. I was offered a slot once I started applying for alternate positions. At last 3 of my classmates were alternate student acceptances.

I would seriously recommend taking A&P again...not just to make your application stronger, but because if you don't have mastery of A&P, it will be very hard to pass nursing school.

You don't want to just get in to nursing school.....you want to graduate as well!

They also have some really hard prereqs. Most require a full year of science major level, organic chemistry and physics.

please apply to like 5 schools! you made a big mistake by applying to just gordon...all nursing schools are different. try gpc, clayton...

I'm guessing you live in Georgia from your post. I live in NC and for years I've been hearing that nursing schools in North GA are relatively easy to get into. It might be a long way from you, I don't know, but it might be an option?

Yes I live in McDonough, GA and I have heard about North Georgia but I am going to apply to several schools instead of applying to just 1 school. Thanks for the info!:)

umm...not to be a buzz kill but I live in North Ga and its taken me YEARS to get into ANY program! I JUST got into North GA College and State University and I was on the waiting list for the second year. But I just say apply everywhere. i had applied to 11 schools.

Well, I don't have any personal experience because I only applied to one college here in NC but in this area, lots of people go to school somewhere in that area because they say "its so easy to get in". But like I said, I haven't tried and I don't even know the name of the school. North GA Tech, maybe? Seems like I remember someone mentioning Jasper, GA. A lot of people from here go to Blairsville but I'm thinking they only offer LPN.

Maybe its just one of those "urban (in this case rural) legends!

I am going to apply with at least 5 schools. Some of my friends have went to Alabama for their RN because they got so FED up:rolleyes: with GA schools. I will be attending Georgia State in the Fall. I still have other classes to take with them because it is required to be taken at their school only. I think I am going to apply with Mercer, Univ of West Ga, Clayton, GPC, and Emory. I do know one thing.... I AM NOT GIVING UP ON MY DREAM!!!!!:nurse:

Haha..thats funny but yeah, I re-read what I had said and it looked like it sounded kinda mean..sorry. lol..but no I guess a little of my bitterness from all of my fighting to get in somewhere came out. I know that Ga Highlands College is in Rome Ga, its an ASN program. And Kennesaw State University has a satellite campus in Jasper. that is for BSN. I actually applied to both..lol. but North Ga College and State University is in Dahlonaga. Really if anyone needs any info on locations of ALL GA nursing schools I seriously do know them all..haha..kinda sad. but really true. I am just so thankful all my waiting is done and my persistence paid off!
