Hi! I am almost done with my 2nd semester and yes its brutal and I want to cry often, LOL. I love it so much though and thoroughly enjoy this experience. I feel like I am studying way more than my classmates and they are getting grades in the high 80's and 90's and I am getting low 80's. I know this isn't terrible, but I work SO hard for just passing grades. Any advice? I average 3-4 hours per day of studying, except on my clinical day I usually wont study. Am I just not thinking critically enough on these exams?
Any advice would be great. Thanks!

Good day, Jamiek33:
Everyone studies differently; so you need to take whatever time it takes. Some will study more, some less. You actually study far less than I do at present; to me, 4 hours would be a tickle.
Thank you.

It sounds like you might be one of those people who memorize as many details as possible instead of focusing on the big picture. That would drive me crazy, but if it works for you, keep on truckin'.

That's the worst! I am in fundamentals of nursing right now. I have been a 4.0 student up until this class. I have an 89 in it right now and I am freaking out because I want to keep my 4.0!!! I feel like I study sooo much. I can always narrow the test answers down to 2 options but I always pick the wrong one and end up getting a high B. I get so upset. I know this is above average- but, I know I can do better. I'm still trying to figure out my nursing "study technique." I don't have it down just yet.
I think I tend to focus on memorizing everything- because I am really good at that! But, that isn't necessarily what nursing is about. It's about applying the knowledge you know. So I'm starting to read more, use YouTube, draw pictures, connect things together, case studies help a ton, and converse with classmates and put our heads together!
Gotta figure out you're learning/studying "style."

Do you study too much?
Absolutely not.
I'm of the opinion that there is no such thing as too much studying.

Great advice!
I don't mean to be critical but I studied a lot more than 3-4 hours/day when I was only taking pre-reqs!
That's me though. Everyone is different. Some may need 40+ hrs/week while others make it by just fine with far less. All depends on you. It sounds like you may need more study time!

I would suggest taking frequent breaks during your study time. You will retain information better and not get so burnt out. Good luck!

The first thing you need to do is stop comparing your grades to others.
See if your school has a success counselor and see if you can make an appointment and get tips in order to excel the way you want to.

Good advice. And don't worry about how much you study vs. how much they study. Because everyone learns differently, they may take in information differently and not study as well by re-reading, etc. I actually dropped my grade on a test by spending too much time reviewing details over and over. I realized quickly in my program that identifying my learning style and sticking to it was more valuable than time spent. Good luck!
