Am I the only new nurse who doesn't hate my job?

Specializes in LTC.

I've been working as an RN in LTC since April. Like everyone, I have bad days at work and sometimes I find myself thinking "What in the world have I gotten myself into?" but at the end of the day, I really like my job and my residents. I don't post in this forum much because it mostly seems to be negative. Surely there must be other new nurses who like their job.

I hope that I don't make anyone who isn't enjoying their job feel bad and I understand the transition can be difficult, but I'm just hoping to hear some positive things about being a new nurse.

Specializes in EMS, ED, Trauma, CEN, CPEN, TCRN.

I love my job -- most days! :) So no, you're not alone! I know we all have bad days, but thankfully I don't regret leaving my cushy graphic design job for a life as an RN. :D

Specializes in Coronary Rehab Unit.

I love my job (one month on the floor orienting, so far, as a LPN) ...... some days (especially Mondays) are absolutely crazy, but I thrive on that, and the day just flies by. Soon moving to 2300-0700 shift, will be a different world, am sure. I love what I'm doing ....... I feel lucky to have outstanding co-workers/team, and the patients have been very positive/nice. Not to mention the hospital is less than 3 miles from home :smokin:

Specializes in ER; HBOT- lots others.

I am not in LTC, but rather a med-surg floor. but i really do LOVE where i am. I love what i do. i am so happy to have found the first job that i have to have it be just right for me. I got offered this position in 3rd semester of nsg school- and am glad i followed thru and it was all it was cracked up to be!

Specializes in Med/Surg/Pedi.

I've been nursing since August and I went through a maybe month or two period around month 6 of hating my job, even to the point where I put in applications elsewhere. However, I am really glad that I didn't get hired because now I am at a point where I really love my job. Im comfortable with what I'm doing, I love the nurses I work with, heck I'm even fond of most of the doctors that I work with. It has its day and I think a good amount of us like our jobs and just need a safe place to rant when things get over-whelming.

Specializes in MICU/SICU.

I've been off orientation in a combined MICU/SICU since December.

I have to admit it's more stressful and exhausting than I expected, but for the most part I like my job.

Yesterday my patient's sister-in-law asked me how long I'd been a nurse...I sort of chuckled and replied "about a year". (This is second career for me, I'm nearly 40). She said "Really? I thought you'd been doing it for years". I asked why she thought so, and she said "Because you're really good at it, and you seem like you so sincerely care for your patients".

Yesterday I LOVED my job!

Specializes in Family Nurse Practitioner.

Love mine! Niot that every second is pure joy but over all I am thrilled to be working as a RN. Thank you all for sharing the positive side of being a new nurse.

Specializes in pulm/cardiology pcu, surgical onc.

Yes, I love my job too! I don't check the site out much anymore b/c it can be so negative and depressing .

Specializes in ICU.

It was most stressful when I was orienting and had no confidence. I was SLOW and prone to mistakes and forgetting.

It hasn't been a year yet, but things have gotten much better now! I can say I love being a nurse and I love what I do. Nothing else there is I rather do. I also love my salary and all the wonderful support I get from everyone! :nurse:

Hahaha we should have an "optimistic nurses" or "happy nurses" forum for all of us who need a break from negativity
