Okay, need your opinions!!! Next semester I am taking A&P II, Chemistry, Public Speaking, and Developmental Psych (14 credit hours). I am an Army Wife and have two small children. My husband will be away most of the semester for training purposes. At the local community college, there is an EKG Tech program that meets on Saturdays for 12 weeks. Do you think I would be crazy to try to do that program this semester? Do you think I should wait until next summer, if they offer it then?
Thank you so much for your thoughts!!

Only you know what you can handle, but that sounds like too much to me! What are you going to do for child care? Saturday's, in addition to a heavy load might put you over the edge. I have kids too, but a supportive hubby and mine are older so they can help out more. I think if you don't have to have the EKG class now, then wait.

Agreed. Only you know how much you can handle.....
Don't forget though, you are not only going to be mommy, but daddy as well :)

What is your Childcare situation? I went through school with my husband gone about 80% of the time, and my biggest struggle was finding the time to do everything that needed to be done. Even easy classes require some sort of work outside the classroom. If you're filling up even weekend days with other things, that could be a problem.
If you have full time M-F care on top of Saturday, i would think you'd be ok with some good time mangement.

I've been a single mom my entire school career. He went to daycare an I went to class. A few semesters I did 17 credit hours. I managed. It's all in what you can handle and your resources with your children. Good luck!

I have to agree with most of the posters.
Having been an army wife through multiple deployments and a mother to 2 children, that may run you ragged. It's not just about the fact that you'll be playing both roles to your family, but also about your own mental health. It may see like a great idea at first, but after a few weeks it's really going to wear on you and that in turn effects everything around you. Personally, I would avoid the EKG class until next time around.
If you have the perfect support system set in place, then try it, however be very cautious.
Thank you everyone! I think it would probably be easier if there was family around. I think I'm going to hold off on the EKG so my kiddos don't get neglected. I feel so bad when I don't have time to take them for an activity in the evenings... Even if it is just the park.
Hopefully I can get a position as a nurse tech next summer!!

I have heard not to take more than one science class at a time. Depends on your strengths.

I would hold off on the EKG class and put all your energy into the other classes. That way you can have the weekends for you and the kids and hopefully to catch a breather from everything.

You sound a lot like me. When I first started college, they let me take 21 credit hours because my grades were so high. In addition to that, I worked 3 jobs. Of course, this was a long time ago....I'm 26 now and started college when I was 15 (they let us take concurrent college classes while in high school). Only you can really know if you can handle it. You could make a list of pros and cons to help weigh them against each other, but just really sit down and think about how it's going to be when everything happens all at once, and if you feel comfortable with that kind of pressure, I say go for it. Just make a plan detailing how you want to prioritize your studies, that way you will be able to get through it and not go crazy! For example, when I was taking so many classes, I had certain days/times that I would study one thing, and then do something different the next day. However, I do realize that everyone has different study habits, so you just have to use a trial and error system to find out which works best for you. At any rate, good luck in whatever you decide to do, and please post on the site, as I know it helps others tremendously (the TEAS V posts are helping me quite a bit).
