I have to agree with most of the posters. Having been an army wife through multiple deployments and a mother to 2 children, that may run you ragged. It's not just about the fact that you'll be playing both roles to your family, but also about your own mental health. It may see like a great idea at first, but after a few weeks it's really going to wear on you and that in turn effects everything around you. Personally, I would avoid the EKG class until next time around. If you have the perfect support system set in place, then try it, however be very cautious.

Yeah the supervisor mentioned that sometimes the tech's will cross train, which is fine as I've done that before. I don't actually start orientation until the 16th of July so I still have no clue, lol. I like to be prepared for any situation and since this is uncharted territory for me, I'm freaking out a bit. Bob, when a patient comes in, what is the first thing you do? Do you know automatically what your job is or do you have to be told?

I'd be interested in seeing some answers as well. I have 2 children, only one is school age and I work full time. I imagine most people would say take it one day at a time!

With my first hospital job, I just kept applying for almost two years for various jobs that would suit me. Finally, I got a phone call back one day. After I got hired, I went and spoke with the HR lady and asked why it takes so long and she told me that if a certain position has a high turn over rate, they continuously leave it advertised that way IF and WHEN that position was vacated they wouldn't be left searching for someone. They would already have tons of resumes to review and consider. The job that I currently picked up, I applied on a Friday and got a phone call the following Monday. It really depends on the institution.

I've recently snagged a job at a local teaching hospital to work as a PCT in the Emergency Department. My past jobs have included working as a radiology assistant in a very small hospital and the Army. As I have not yet received my booklet telling me what is in my scope of duties, what can I expect? I was pretty surprised to even get an interview as I don't have a ton of experience! I'm starting nursing school later this year which is why I thought this job would be a great way to get my feet wet... I just hope I'm not in over my head!

Awesome! Thanks for the input y'all! I'm a bit nervous, I'm 26 and have been out of school for a while and did most of my pre-req courses online through University of Phoenix. Funny, I want to be a nurse yet I struggle the most with science and math, lol.

I recently got accepted into a local college and have set my mind to doing the 2 year RN courses. I know that there is an entrance exam to take in order to actually start nursing school so what is the best way to prepare for this exam? Any help would be appreciated!

You may also want to check with your academic adviser. They may be able to point you in a couple of directions and get you going. There are a lot of schools out there that offer assistance, it's finding the starting point that can be tough! :-)
