Alright, I'll start! MDC Fall 2013

U.S.A. Florida

Published

Why hello there, fellow students!

You can call me Cedeno, and I'll be applying for the MDC nursing program for fall 2013! I've been excited for awhile now, especially since MDC (and all its red tape) has delayed my intended apply date twice (originally Fall 2012, then Spring 2013). Ah, but no worries!

Right now I'm taking my last bit of classes before applying: A&P 2 w/lab, Micro, and Critical Thinking/Ethics. I've seen many nursing students this semester-- which is wonderful-- but at the same time I think two words when I meet another pre-nursing student: "Awesome! :x3: " and "Competition! :wideyed: " (Not seriously, but in a jokey kind of way.)

Once admitted, I'd love to form a study group. Size isn't quite so much the priority as cohesiveness is (though size counts!). I'd love study mates who like to utilize chats like Google talk, Skype, Kik, etc. for times when perhaps we'd like to study something but cannot make it to a physical location.

I'm a visual and auditory learner, so I love highlighters, dry-erase boards, and discussing questions together to ensure everyone understands rather than one person offering up the answer and others just accepting it without knowing.

Ah! I've managed to turn this into an ad for study mates! :o I'm just excited and hope there are other potential classmates here on AN. Please pop in and say hello! Let's talk GPAs, TEAS scores, whatever!

....Also if you take the TEAS twice is it highest score used or last test taken?

GOOD LUCK! :cat:

Stats:

Expected final science GPA: 3.67

TEAS score: n/a

Omg I am so nervous that I can't wait I have a 3.97 gpa and 80.7% in my teas exam I already applied but I don't know if I am gonna be accepted this long wait is horrible please if somebody knows how many people applied for the fall 2013 and what is the cut off any information would be appreciated

Hey @bsartor

My first choice is the accelerated. Want to get started with my career asap! But yeah that first semester...def not going to have a life outside of school lol!

Hello everyone!

So I've been trying to stay active, and BUSY to pass the time. I wish it was June already! Although I get a feeling we won't find out until July....:***: anyway I hope to meet everyone at Orientation! My first choice is the Accelerated option as well but I'll take which ever one I get into lol

By the way, does anyone have access to a book list? Maybe from a previous semester? Would be nice to start looking at some prices for books online...

Welcome Dayli and Carissa! Great scores!!!

@Diamond and Tati I hope we get in together!!! The first semester is definitely going to be killer! I'm not even sure how to schedule that many classes so that the times don't conflict and so that we still have plenty of time for clinicals! :nailbiting: I have been searching and trying to find out which professors to avoid.

@Tati I have a copy of the booklist for the first semester but its supposed to change. I got it at the bookstore with the exact same thoughts that you had- I wanted to start looking for the best prices. I will try to scan and upload it today for you. (Just remember its supposed to change.):D

Brandy you are amazing!! Thanks! By the way have you scheduled your CPR class yet?

Accelerated RN here we come! ( I hope!!!!!!!) :nurse:

Thanks for the welcome! It's so agonizing to have to wait, isn't it?!? Gosh, July can't get here fast enough!

Since I applied to both PT & FT generic, does anybody know if they give you an option to choose which one you want to attend if you by any chance get accepted into both? Or do they just place you in one?

I had no idea about the program at Homestead. I've taken the majority of my classes at Kendall, Medical & North. I'm in West Kendall...wonder what campus that would place me at if I do get accepted??

Hope everyone is having a wonderful week!

Hi jessy!

In response to your questions, if you do get into both tracks you would be able to choose which one you would like and just decline the other one. That would then open up a seat for another student. As far as the Homestead campus, they choose who attends which campus based on zip code. They assign you to either the Homestead and Medical campus and you kinda have no choice, but of course if would supposedly be the one closest to you. Good luck!

Thank you for your welcome I hope all of us get accepted please June come fast lol. Good luck everyone

heyy! I thought that the schedule for a full time generic program would be a fixed one for everybody. Are you guys saying we have different times for different classes to pick from? Is that something else we have to worry abouttt, which professor to avoid? lol

June is next month already!!! I have been done applying since March! Good luck to everyone!

Hello all....I am presently in the last 8 weeks of the AO program at MDC. Good-luck to you all! I think my combined score was an 84 (or 85? can't remember), and I got into both the AO and Generic tracks. I believe most of my counterparts had at least a score of 80.

I would just work on the CPR class for now if you haven't done that. The shots/titers/health screenings, you can wait until you get the acceptance letter. In fact, that stuff isn't really that necessary until the program starts. The screenings are really for the clinical sites, so you have plenty of time to get those done. If you want to, you may also want to get at least a flu shot, as most hospitals now require you to get one to attend clinicals there. The Wellness Center can do everything but it's very hectic, and if you have a primary care that can take care of everything for you, I would go that route.

Good-luck to everyone. I was on the site for something else and decided to check this board. I know how anxious I was before I got the acceptance letter! It has been a very quick year in AO but I am looking forward to the light at the end of the tunnel. AO is not for the faint hearted and although it has been very fast, it has been a year filled with much stress and many long hours!

Feel free to contact me further when you get into the program for some quick tips before the program starts :-)

Also...regarding the last question above....the AO program is more like a cohort program. You start and end with the same group. Everyone takes the same classes at the same time and advances to each semester together. Generic is a bit more flexible. You probably meet more people, but in AO, your counterparts become a part of your family for the year.

Almost forgot...I seem to remember getting the acceptance email about 5-6 weeks after the application deadline.
