Alright, I'll start! MDC Fall 2013

U.S.A. Florida

Published

Why hello there, fellow students!

You can call me Cedeno, and I'll be applying for the MDC nursing program for fall 2013! I've been excited for awhile now, especially since MDC (and all its red tape) has delayed my intended apply date twice (originally Fall 2012, then Spring 2013). Ah, but no worries!

Right now I'm taking my last bit of classes before applying: A&P 2 w/lab, Micro, and Critical Thinking/Ethics. I've seen many nursing students this semester-- which is wonderful-- but at the same time I think two words when I meet another pre-nursing student: "Awesome! :x3: " and "Competition! :wideyed: " (Not seriously, but in a jokey kind of way.)

Once admitted, I'd love to form a study group. Size isn't quite so much the priority as cohesiveness is (though size counts!). I'd love study mates who like to utilize chats like Google talk, Skype, Kik, etc. for times when perhaps we'd like to study something but cannot make it to a physical location.

I'm a visual and auditory learner, so I love highlighters, dry-erase boards, and discussing questions together to ensure everyone understands rather than one person offering up the answer and others just accepting it without knowing.

Ah! I've managed to turn this into an ad for study mates! :o I'm just excited and hope there are other potential classmates here on AN. Please pop in and say hello! Let's talk GPAs, TEAS scores, whatever!

....Also if you take the TEAS twice is it highest score used or last test taken?

GOOD LUCK! :cat:

Stats:

Expected final science GPA: 3.67

TEAS score: n/a

Hello everyone!

Final grades are in. Yay! I have a competitive score of 77%. Hope thats good enough to get accepted. I applied for the full time generic.

In regards to the campus, previous semester student were allowed to apply to a specific campus. This year the advisors informed me that they no longer do that. That know you get accepted to the camous closest to the address they have on file (Homestead / Medical).

Well good luck everyone! Cant wait for June :)

Oh thanks for clarifying ohnana! That must be why my advisor told me that I need to have my address in before May 1st if I wanted to go the Homestead campus (My husband and I were planning to move to Homestead but decided to stay close UM Hospital).

Good luck to you! Now we wait for June!!!!!! :whistling: :nailbiting: :D

Finally got my grades! I'm not sure which one it is on the degree audit

I also spoke to the advisors and they said you didn't have to specifically choose the Homestead campus. I called them about a week ago to check because if so then I would of submit another application (just to make my chances better). Once you get accepted they place you at either the Homestead campus or medical campus based on your zip code.

Good luck everyone!

Hmmm, you get no say in the matter? How do you guys feel about Homestead vs Medical campus? I've only been to the medical campus.

Hello Marilyn.a and welcome! You're definitely in!!! No worries! Regarding Homestead vs Medical campus you're placed on the campus depending on the address on file. Although I believe the Homestead campus just offers the generic FT and no other program. bsartor are you looking at your grades in the right place?? Click on current students and then on view my grades, it should be the fourth link from top to bottom on your left hand side. An the wait continues......

Hi guys! Ok, I've read threads on here before, but have never posted. I applied for Nursing at MDC Fall 2013. I applied for both the FT and PT generic options. My GPS is 3.67 and my TEAS score is 76. If I'm doing the math correctly, that gives me a total score of 82.30. Don't know how good or bad that is! I wasn't happy with my TEAS score but I didn't have time to take it a second time.

My friend did the accelerated program last year and she said she didn't get her notice until sometime in July. The nerves are killing me! Wishing everyone luck! :)

Hey Jessy! You definitely stand a great chance. Your total score is great. I will die of anxiety if we have to wait until JULY! :dead: Good luck to you!!

Guys our group is growing! I'm super excited to meet you all and dying for June to get here! I went to the uniform store across the street from campus last weekend to price uniforms and look at supplies. Obviously I just can't stand this wait!

Hi guys, I am actually not new to this website. I have always viewed comments but never I actually signed up until now. I grew sick and tired of not being able to comment, so I joined. However, I applied to the accelerated and full time program this year. I am also anxiously awaiting response. Jessy is absolutely right, you will hear something by July. Last year, I applied and I did not receive my acceptance letter until July 11th. Unfortunately, due to personal circumstances, I had to decline my seat, so I am back at the same same drawing board again this year. Hopefully, I will get in like I did last year. All the best to everyone and I hope to meet all of you this coming fall.

Just curious, does anyone know what specialty they would like to work or which facility they would like to work at when they graduate? Also, which are the best hospitals for nurses in the Miami area? (By best I mean the ones with best morale and happiest employees). According to scrubsmag.com Miami Children's Hospital is supposed to be a great place to work. I haven't been in Miami that long so I know nothing about the hospital systems here.

I think UM Hospital would be my first choice because I would be close to my husband and its a teaching hospital. I think I want to work with neurology/neurosurgery patients or pediatrics general med/surg. I'm sure when I graduate I will just be happy to get a job.

Happy Mother's Day

Welcome jessy and ttredz and good luck getting in!

@ Jessy we have similar scores, I have a 3.6 science GPA and a 76 teas score, hopefully we'll make it!

@ ttredz, may I ask what ur overall score is?

Can't beleive we might have to wait til July, I mean waiting til June was agonizing enough!!!!

Hi, guys! This is my first post. I switched my major from bio to nursing RIGHT before classes started in January. Luckily, I had all of the pre-reqs at that time besides HSC0003. I put my application in during the month of February so I have been DYING for June to come!! My GPA is 3.3 (they wouldn't let me retake my A&P from 2008 no matter how much I fought.....:dead:), but I am staying optimistic. My TEAS is 92....which gives me a combined score of 88.2. Hopefully this is enough to get in. I applied to FT and PT (FT first choice) and because of my address, I'd be going to Homestead campus.

A friend of a friend got in last year with a GPA of 3.0 and a TEAS in the mid-80s so hopefully that takes some of the anxiety away for some of you.

I came here to vent (LOL) and to get updates whenever anyone gets an acceptance email [hopefully] next month. Hope to see you guys in the Fall!

Carissa
