Has anybody else been pretty shocked by how polarized many of the forums have gotten lately? 'Back in the good ole' days,' people would occasionally have differing view points and get into little spats, but on the whole we were all on the same page and working toward the same common goal (patient and nurse well-being).
These days it feels like at least 1/3 of the trending forums eventually devolve into tirades and personal attacks. Even when the discussions start out fairly civil, they sour pretty quickly.
I realize that highly-polarized, highly-sensationalized news is the nature of our political system these days. I'm also guessing that the polarization is felt more deeply on AN because the two most prominent, polarizing topics right now (covid and 'black lives' protests) are both interrelated with public health. Usually AN members are at least somewhat united on the aims and goals for public health, even if they don't agree with the means. Now, there's just so much bickering.
It's really disheartening. AN is usually my escape from the outside world, where I can commiserate with other nurses on topics that only we understand. Lately, it feels like the lighthearted, feel-good nature of AN has been poisoned by all of this hatred. I hope we get back to the way things were sooner rather than later. ?

Understood.

So all the videos and ACTUAL arrests are false. I don't need to "try again" when video evidence, infinite eye witnesses, and police arrests/charges are proof. So your word overrides facts and evidence?
Wrong. Wrong. Wrong. I have been around the violent protests and have seen the damage first hand. It was more than just petty windows as well.
We've all seen it. It's not exclusive to your eyesight. Does that mean everyone else is blind? I'm not understanding why your opinion is the only one that matters here. You're proving our point on dismissiveness but carry on.
Gaslight harder. Jesus wouldn't appreciate low tier manipulation either.
We were doing so good in this thread without condescension and now you brought religion into this. Would Jesus behave as you have? What happened to accept everyone?

You see that AFTER they were started by WHITE people. Also, they're not from those areas and many are even foreign, even the police and feds said that. So my point stands. The comment I replied to tried to subliminally allude to Black American residents living and protesting in those areas as being sole perpetrators of the riots and looting as if that's a Black thing, you know the basic stereotyping nonsense. After all, it has been said on AN that Black people are prone to violence or some unheard of nonsense to that effect.

I live in a city that was literally on fire and I could hear the rioters outside of my window. I don't know what more you want. I was actually THERE on a daily basis, not watching Youtube videos from thousands of miles away ?.
Cognitive dissonance is a powerful thing.
Religion? I was responding to a post mentioning Jesus if you bothered reading what I quoted. I am not going to engage with these low tier discourse if you are going to ignore reality. Your subsequent posts clearly demonstrate that as well as litany of other logical fallacies.
Enjoy, I'm out.

So you think you're the only one who lives in a city that's had drama? Do you think it was exclusive to your city? It wasn't. The point of mentioning the videos and other's statements was to prove that point, but I see it went over your head and you have the nerve to speak of cognitive dissonance.
This thread was very cordial and respectful until you decided to throw in insults and pettiness. Maybe leaving is best. Please don't return until AND unless you can learn to have a civil discourse. Again, you've proven when uncomfortable with the truth and differing points of view, some people become hateful and dismissive; true narcissistic like behavior. That usually happens when people can't dispute what you're saying. Your discomfort will not dictate my conversation. I'll leave it at that. Good thing I was raised to be civilized. ?

From what I have heard they were started by ANTIFA and not BLM. And if you watch some of those videos there are blacks who do not support the rioting and looting.

QuoteA Twitter account that tweeted a call to violence and claimed to be representing the position of “Antifa” was in fact created by a known white supremacist group, Twitter said Monday. The company removed the account.
Before it emerged the account was run by white supremacists, Donald Trump Jr., President Donald Trump’s son, pointed his 2.8 million Instagram followers to the account as an example how dangerous Antifa is.

Quotefacebook has confirmed the removal of nearly 200 accounts linked to white supremacist groups that have used the platform to plan various infiltrations of George Floyd protests across the country.
QuoteA white supremacist group created a fake Twitter account, posed as the leftist Antifa movement and called for violence during the ongoing protests sweeping the nation, the social media giant said Monday.
And these are just a few examples. It's very real!
This is in response to Princess Bride comment on saying I am complacent because I refused to take a stance. I have a hard time with being told the death of innocent people being murdered is to be expected due it is a war. My thoughts are don't mention injustice when people black and white are being murdered, assaulted and shot dead in the street just for walking out of their homes or doing their jobs. Yet, their names are not mentioned in this call for injustice. I don't know what God you follow but my God's commandment is Thou Shall Not Kill!! So, yes when I say I value all life, black, white, Asian, Latino, I mean all life. I became a Nurse because I care for everyone.

No offense, but you are proving my point. Your hostile, dismissive behavior is what black posters have to put up with on AN and quite frankly, it is tiring.
And to add, very few revolutions/movements that have been effective have been peaceful. American Revolution, Civil War and the abolition of slavery are just some examples in American history where peaceful protests did not work and things had to be escalated in order for change to occur.
In addition, while YOU may have witnessed violent protests, the vast majority of the protests have been peaceful and most of the violence has come from cops macing and violently handling peaceful protestors and white supremacists coming to start a race war.
And it is interesting how you seem triggered when I mentioned Jesus wanting his followers to help defend the defenseless against injustice but are hardcore fighting arguing against BLM, cop brutality and giving violent white supremacists who have historically used the Bible to justify mass atrocities a free pass.

Please go! Your hateful, racist, anti-BLM gibberish certainly isn't welcome in a thread that wishes to speak against racism.

Don't be so obtuse. When people mention all lives matter in response to BLM, it is to diminish and dismiss the disproportional rate of violence black people face when it comes to the cops.
Also, the fact you bring religion into this discussion to justify your complacency and indecency is distasteful.
