I don't know personally..but I have a friend who took it. If you look on their website they talk about it being combined with good eating. It makes your body unable to digest fat. Because of this..you're required to restrict ALL fat in your diet. If you don't...there is really bad anal leakage. So....it's basically just a way to force you to eat healthy.

I've been taking Alli for almost a month now. Actually, Alli only prevents about 25% of the fat you've eaten in a meal from being digested. You do not have to restrict ALL fat from your diet. However, it is recommended that you keep your fat intake in each meal at 15 grams or less.
I have actually taken Alli and then eaten a few meals high in fat, and have had no incidents of anal leakage, stomach upsets, etc. But this is only MY experience, and your body may react differently. I am on a weight loss plateau, and was hoping Alli would help me over the hump and stay motivated. Unfortunately, I have not lost any weight on Alli. But I did not plan on taking it longer than a month anyway. I don't want to be dependent on it to keep off any weight loss, so back to the hard work of doing it on my own.

Alli is a lower version of the prescription med Xenical. A physician that I work with, is currently taking Alli and has experienced "leakage" the day after eating high fat meals. I think that is just depends on the persons body.

I definitely agree that is a way to HELP a person-- but it shouldn't be the *ONLY* way that someone should try to get in shape... People attribute diet so much to what you eat and not enough to physical activity... What most people don't realize is that once you work out enough to get your metabolism, some people are able to eat whatever they want--- As a "curvaceous" woman myself, i've found that no matter how well watch what I eat, the only way I've gotten healthier is when I've been working out. Read: CARDIO. I've watched what i've eaten for a few months now into my BSN program, and with all the coursework, the 20 lbs that I lost the first semester came back the second half when finals (STRESS) came back... it was all about working out, and once I stopped, even though i was eating better, I couldnt keep it off...
For those of you that are finding the "diet" (*NUTRITION* has a better ring to it) part of weight management difficult, perhaps focusing on exercise might prompt more results... As a person who finds the whole "high impact" workout > due to my weight, things like using the elliptical or walking around the block or an indoor track, or swimming seem to have a better effect on the joints :)

I tried it for one week, during which time I ate only healthy foods. Then I started to fart uncontrollably at the worst times, like during patient admissions or starting IV's. It was so embarrassing. I decided it's not for me... It was a waste of my 50 bucks.

That's exactly what I am afraid of. I have that problem at times without taking alli. I hear digestive enzymes help with uncontrollable farting. Can't find them at the drug store?

You're lucky that farting was the worst of it. I've known people to be unable to control their BMs from taking this stuff. If that's what it takes to lose weight, I think I'd rather stay the way I am. I already have enough trouble with IBS as it is......I can only imagine the sorry state of my underwear were I to attempt this foolishness.:icon_roll
Me too Marla! The OTC alli is 1/2 the strength of the prescription. I can't imagine doubling the side effects. They don't call them side effects, they call them "treatment effects". Yeah, right...it still boils down to leaking greasy stools in your panties. I was told by my doc that the toilet bowl has a yellowish/orange ring that clings around the sides even after flushing. It takes cleaning with a grease removal agent to remove it. Eewwhhhh.....!

I've known 2 people to try it. Both told me the same thing. At first the "side effects" were small ... but they increased over time. After a couple of weeks, both people stopped taking it.
One told me that her turning point came with a horrible incident in a restaurant that she was too embarrassed to tell me about. I hate to think of the possibilities!
