All new LPN students

Published

hello everyone!!!

i start school on jan 26th, and i can hardly wait. i am starting this thread for all new lpn students who would like to share their first day of school with everyone else who is waiting anxiously for their day to come. you can give such info as what to do to prepare, what to expect and etc. i know other new students are eager to know just as much as i am. so thank you in advance, and good luck.

:yeah:

Drama!!!! We had pre-class day yesterday and i can already tell where some of the drama might come from. One of the people are repeating and think they know how the game is worked. An instructor had to stop them in there tracks. It wasnt that bad its just the point.

In my class...first clinical rotation was soo hectic with drama.

some people in my group were working real hard with immobile clients while the other group who got to work with clients who could do their ADLs. Ofcourse they would finish faster because all they did was make beds. They were running around the hall way pist off because we were holding them back on their "early extended break" instead of helping us. People can get the " you dont help me i dont help you " attitude by people like that.

As a helpful thought..." even if you didnt help me, i will help you if i can, because im that much of a better person"

we had drama even when we had to take the entrance test. just remenber why you in school

Start learning A&P. If you know all about the organs, cells, tissues, and body systems and how they work then you are good on that subject. You can start learning conversions and roman numerals if you don't know them. You can start learning prefixes and sufixes for medical terminology.

I start the Nursing program Jan 12th too and Im super excited and a lil nervous..I know this program can get stressful and overwhelming but I will be trying to stay positive and I plan on studying like crazy!

I am 42 years old and have been out of high school for 25 years and just completed my first week of lpn school. I was shocked at the amount of homework we recived each night but it all good. I am up for the challenge. We do a few hours of A&P in the morning then we switch off to Fundamentals. We are using Memmlers for our A&P, Calculate With Confidence for our math and Saunders for our Fundamentals. Also we recieved a Mosby's dictionary that totally rocks. Thats it for our books. $250.00. Now they are large books and all have Study Guides with them that equal their size. We all carry 2 book bags to class. Oh I forgot we also got a BLS book too but it's kind of small. So in total we recieved 7 books. My first day of class we went over the syllabus, made sure we had all of our physical paperwork done, Financial Aid things in order, Then we hit the books and started taking tons of notes and about 4 hrs worth of homework that night. Which included reading a chapter for A&P and a chapter for Fundamentals. Answering any and all questions pertaining to each in the study guide. Pretty much each day after that was a mirror of that day.It has been alot of work so far but it will be worth iy. I can hardly wait until Dec to graduate and start in this exciting profession.

:tinkbll:Congrats! I started two months ago, and the best things i can tell you is dont worry! study, do your best and when tines get tough, just remember its all worth it!:nurse:

I started school on January 5th and I love it so far. I really love my school and have been getting A's on my test. Hopefully I can keep it up. Hang in there. You will be glad you did. Just focus and I hate to say this but say goodbye to your personal life for awhile. All your hard work will pay off in the end.

Oh yeah I gave up on my personal life.lol. My wife and kids know that after this is said and done we can resume our "normal" life. I love it so far.

I started on the 5th. I am starting to feel overwhelmed already, I just keep trying to keep the end goal in mind. It doesnt help that the bookstore didnt have like half of our books in and still doesnt.

I started NS yesterday!!! It was an overload of information, to say the least! I definitely have my work ahead of me, trying to keep up with school and two kids! (Three if you count my husband!:roll) I am very excited, though.

Hi guys - I know your feelings, eagerness and excitement because I am a survivor of 1st LPN subject. To maximize your study time, you have to know the coverage of the test and study way ahead of time. Familiarize yourself with "key terms" or terminologies in each chapter. This is crucial in understanding a test question. If a certain item or topic is unclear or does not sink-in even after reading a number of times, I go to the popular WebMD and Wikipedia. You may find more illustrations and examples that re-inforces and complement the textbook. You will all pass the course because of your PASSION to be a nurse. Wish you all the best!!! :yeah:

I started my first day and now I'm on my third. It's really hard right off the bat but it's just a lot of studying at night and very fast paced during the day at school.

For those of you who are waiting try looking up on medical terms. It'll help alot!
