Air Force nursing FY2021

Published

Hello all,

I have looked all over this site in hopes of finding others that are getting their packets ready and are applying to the Air Force this fall. I have not found any recent threads on this.

I am applying for an ER spot. I have been a RN for 7 years and work in a Level II trauma emergency center. I have my MSN-Administrative Leadership and TCRN. Is there anyone out there that is also getting their packets ready for October boards? My recruiter told me that because of COVID everything has been pushed back and that boards will meet in October this year. He also told me that I would be going to MEPS and doing my medical in the next 3 weeks.

Its been hurry up and wait for the last 1.5 year which has been okay but since October 26th has felt like an eternity.

Anyone heard anything about how many applicants they are accepting?

Anyone else feel like this is the longest 2.5 weeks ever???

Oh my word, yes! I get anxious every time I think about it LOL. Really hoping they don't push it back at all.

Someone shared this about the numbers selected last year. They did not know how many applied or have any information about this board/year.

Oh wow that was a lot of positions. The CN who interviewed me said I was the only clinical nurse applicant for his entire region so If it’s anything close to that this year I like my odds

I applied for HPSP for WHNP and from what I was told ahead of time, there were no positions for this specialty this FY, only 4 positions for FNP. They agreed to still review my package and I was ultimately not selected. My recruiter said, “You were the #1 non-select if that means anything!” I was like yeah, no that means absolutely nothing LOL!

Oh I’m sorry. That sucks but still kind of funny. I have heard that sometimes they are allowed to take one or two over, and maybe that’s why they agreed to review your package?

Oh no! That’s so frustrating, I’m sorry! I was wondering if that would happen to me as well since they didn’t come out with the spots until like two weeks before the application was due.

Will you try again or have you thought about going AD as RN and then going to school? Or are you already in a program?

Got word from my recruiter yesterday I have officially been board selected as a family nurse practitioner. Need to finalize some things and get my MEPS re-certified (expires next month), but past that, this two year process is finally getting squared away.  Stoked and looking forward to rejoining active duty.  Good luck to all on their applications and fingers crossed there will be no more hiccups.

How has your process been going? Everything moving smoothly for you?

I had a strange thing happen to me last board. I wasn’t selected but also wasn’t a nonselect. My recruiter was unable to give me a reason other than they said to roll me over to the October board. Thinking maybe a spot issue or perhaps he missed a deadline with something.

The CN said he did interviews for southeast, from NC down to FL. Said he had 10 interviews total with me being only clinical nurse one.
