There a couple options for you at this juncture. If you're already in a program, there is a scholarship opportunity for you. It is called the Nurse Candidate Program. You'd have to talk to the recruiter about the details, but basically if you're in a program the Navy will pay for the rest of your tuition and books. After you graduate, you'll obligate time as an officer. Accessions I was a Hospital Corpsman in the Navy and it was a good experience. Many of us go on to Nursing School or Medical School afterwards. There is a program called MECP (Medical Enlisted Commissioning Program) for nursing that can be applied to and completed while on active duty. It's an extremely competitive program and they choose maybe 16 to 20 applicants per year. You also have to sort through and deal with the politics of trying to create a competitive package. If you're wanting to become a nurse, then choosing to become an active duty Hospital Corpsman would be a slow process to reach that goal. You're much better off trying to finish school and coming in through a commission. That's just my opinion. If you're wanting to take a break from school and stay in the healthcare field, then becoming a Hospital Corpsman is a great choice. Professional Development - Enlisted Commissioning Programs I hope this helps!
