Hello all,
I have looked all over this site in hopes of finding others that are getting their packets ready and are applying to the Air Force this fall. I have not found any recent threads on this.
I am applying for an ER spot. I have been a RN for 7 years and work in a Level II trauma emergency center. I have my MSN-Administrative Leadership and TCRN. Is there anyone out there that is also getting their packets ready for October boards? My recruiter told me that because of COVID everything has been pushed back and that boards will meet in October this year. He also told me that I would be going to MEPS and doing my medical in the next 3 weeks.

It takes a hot minute to read and I had to read it slow and then re-read some of it LOL but it lays it all out there. It let me download it. Bummer that the ED isn't the $35k/yr for 6 right now. It was when my hubs went to OTS but then it went away before they got all his stuff straightened up enough to apply and the highest they offered was for the 4yrs. ? Oh well. The other options aren't too shabby either!
Sweet! See you in Feb!! LOL ?
One of the ways you can meet the requirement for the retention bonus says having “Bachelors Plus”. Does that mean being working on your Master’s?

Yay so exciting! My recruiter also confirmed that there was no accession bonus for ER this year.

You want orders AND to know how long you’re committed for???? OK beggars can’t be choosers! Just kidding. No clue. I don’t even have an OTS date or assignment yet, but very excited for you! Safe travels!
@Peter RN I have no clue what a bachelor's plus is LOL. The retention bonus really won't get settled until you get to your base because your chief nurse will have to sign off on it so if your recruiter or Google can't answer it, I would just have all your questions ready for when you get to your base and jump on it ASAP.
@ttwilbs There may not be an accession bonus, but there is a retention bonus. It's published and is pretty much always there so just be ready to ask when you get to your base! If you haven't, download that link Peter RN shared. It even has the current amounts for each speciality.
@Sarm19 I have no clue on the DEROS but YAY for a fly out date!! It sounds like total chaos but you know the military, stay on them! I'm so excited for you! Good luck and safe travels!
Can we take a retention bonus being non-prior at our first assignment? I know that itd be more to take the retention each year than to take the one time accession offered if I’m looking at it right because I don’t think those can be taken together. I didn’t see anything about taking retention straight away on the document shared above. Any priors know? Thanks for the clarification!

Yes. Prior/non-prior has nothing to do with it. It's just a matter of meeting the requirements with a board certification and then one of the other things from the list (in that document). I, too, thought that "retention bonus" would mean after you've stayed your time but it is more like an incentive to retain you and they pay it as soon as you've met the requirements and turned in the paperwork. I was pleasantly surprised when we found out it was paid up front instead of on the back end. I even expected that surely, even if they paid it yearly, it would be after completion of each year owed, but it wasn't. There are stipulations and if you don't stay your time after you've been paid, you have to pay it back. But I am pretty sure all that is outlined in that document.
It must have been on the actual retention bonus paperwork but somewhere it specifies the payment date and how it's paid initially and then yearly thereafter. The hubs recruiter had sent him all the RB paperwork to fill out before he left for OTS and acted like it would all be there and ready when he got to his first duty station so we knew what it looked like and such, but like a lot of things, it went somewhere never to be seen again. So he just re-did it when we got to his base and he got the extra stuff he needed finished.

Does anyone have the FY quotas for both nurses/NP? I was curious to see how many they needed this upcoming year
