Air Force nursing FY2021

Hello all,

I have looked all over this site in hopes of finding others that are getting their packets ready and are applying to the Air Force this fall. I have not found any recent threads on this.

I am applying for an ER spot. I have been a RN for 7 years and work in a Level II trauma emergency center. I have my MSN-Administrative Leadership and TCRN. Is there anyone out there that is also getting their packets ready for October boards? My recruiter told me that because of COVID everything has been pushed back and that boards will meet in October this year. He also told me that I would be going to MEPS and doing my medical in the next 3 weeks.

Oh my goodness! So yesterday I talked to my recruiter and apparently there is an issue with my scroll still pending so I should hopefully have orders by Tuesday or else I will be pushed to the Feb class I guess. I wonder if it's an issue with all the nurses?? I hope at least you get orders by Tuesday!! Fingers crossed!

Oh man! There’s something going on with those scrolls. I hope it goes through and you can get orders soon and not wait til the last second like me!  ????

Dang girl! They have you some all kind of messed up!! That's crazy!! I do know that even though my husband found out he was selected sometime in late March, he didn't have orders until like 4 or 5 days before he left in late July. It's crazy how messed up it can all be. I did finally find out my class date and verified I'll just be coming back here with the hubs but I still don't have any wings stuff or orders. Guess we shall see how close they keep cutting it all with everyone! I do know it's pretty incredible what they can pull off last minute when they have to though!

@Fly-T-Nurse Ya my recruiters were stumped, they said everything has been done on their end for awhile now, they didn’t know why I didn’t have orders yet, which is why they didn’t tell me my assignment. The I got that e-mail..I do need my orders to do my oath and then book my flights and hotel so I’ll need them by Thursday-3 days out at the latest. They did say HQ probably is unaware I leave in a week versus think I have until my OTS date to get things sorted. That’s great! I got my first wings e-mail about 35 days before my class date and some people in my class just got theirs or still haven’t received it yet. So I think you’ll see yours sometime in January.

Those of you who already have your class dates, do we go to the 8 week or 5 week OTS? I was sure it was the 5 week, but for some reason my recruiter thinks it’s the 8 week this year.

I thought 5 week too but recruiter said 8 week. Told me 5 week is just for dentists and doctors.

8 weeks! I saw a couple nurses last class had 5 weeks but stated they are phasing it out.

I was originally told it would be 8 weeks by my first recruiter but I was recently told it would only be 5 weeks by my current recruiter and I am not prior service.

My recruiter just sent me paperwork for an accession bonus! Wasn’t expecting that at all

Finally received my OTS date via email. Going Feb. No word on assignment. How/when did you find out?

That’s awesome! I’m not a good example. I’ve been calling AFPC, MPF, total nurse force, anyone to try and get info about my orders and I fly out in 5 days, oath in 3 days...Usually orders will come via e-mail or recruiter will give you the info.

Just in case, ask your recruiter about accession v/s retention bonus because depending on your specialties and depending on "the need", sometime the retention bonus is way better and if I remember right, you can't do both. If your recruiter is willing, there is actually an entire packet on this info that they sent me when hubs did all this and it outlined it all super well! I think it's updated yearly and I don't know what I did with his or I would share it LOL. I do know the ED retention bonus goes back and forth between maxing at $20k/yr for a 4 yr commitment and at time up to $36k/yr for 6yr commitment. There are some requirements for each avenue you take. Also, they gave my husband all the paperwork but he had to re-do it when he got to his base anyway.

Also, I finally got my wings email! LOL. I feel more official ???‍♀️
