Hello all,
I have looked all over this site in hopes of finding others that are getting their packets ready and are applying to the Air Force this fall. I have not found any recent threads on this.
I am applying for an ER spot. I have been a RN for 7 years and work in a Level II trauma emergency center. I have my MSN-Administrative Leadership and TCRN. Is there anyone out there that is also getting their packets ready for October boards? My recruiter told me that because of COVID everything has been pushed back and that boards will meet in October this year. He also told me that I would be going to MEPS and doing my medical in the next 3 weeks.

The problem is they go by land as far as Tacoma and the. Have to wait for the next ferry. So plan accordingly. And no. Do NOT drive through Canada in the Winter.
3 weeks isn’t bad at all! I’m from Minot, North Dakota LOL so I forget not everyone is used to driving through that. I agree I’d just ship your car!

The biggest thing is the distance between shelter and gas stations and it’s too cold to camp. And some stations run out of gas in the Winter. So if you run out of gas or have a flat you can’t fix, you’ll probably die in your car before someone finds you in the morning ?♀️
I am so excited for y'all and can't seem to pull away from all the exciting updates! Unfortunately, I did not get selected. I was told no comments were made as to why, but I'd like to assume it was my lack of experience (passed NCLEX in Jan & started in the ICU Feb). I'd be lying if I said I wasn't extremely disappointed as this has been a dream of mine. Maybe everything happens for a reason though as my fiancé just received orders to Aviano last week. Any advice as to MY next steps.. is it possible to still apply to AD from overseas and/or does Reserves have OCONUS units? Thanks in advance y'all... I've loved keeping up with your good news. Good luck!
@rToney17
It’s possible!! I’m currently overseas and the last time I worked in an ER was 2016! (I was fortunate to have a lot of great experience prior to moving overseas). I’d recommend joining Red Cross right away and start asking about volunteering as a nurse at the hospital there. Hospital spots can take some time to get but stick with it and be as active in the community as possible and reapply! I’ve been working at WIC on base at my last base and now this one. I was also offered a volunteer ER nurse position at the first Navy base I was at but it took some time and networking.

Aw sorry to hear that! If you don't mind me asking when did you get notified you were not selected? I applied for an NP position but still haven't heard back not even if I was selected or not!

He was having difficulty due to COVID and people PCSing. I somehow ended up scheduling it myself by emailing the col directly regarding and letting my recruiter know. I was unaware there was another ER consultant interview needed until my recruiter messaged me one night to reach out to schedule it. I WhatsApp’d the ER consultant to schedule and he called me 5 minutes later.
Thats crazy that you did that. Sounds like you by passed the recruiter to schedule your own interviews. Thats great, it makes me think about being more proactive with all my new recruiters and all. It's been 2 weeks since a recruiter told me anything about my interview or application process. Glad it worked out for you

What’s the tentative assignment? I truly do not understand how they can not have given you orders yet. This is nuts.

My husband’s command didn’t believe it either! They have a training they need to schedule/ know what’s going on with him for deployment schedule etc.
RAF Lakenheath, England! My husband is at RAF Mildenhall so we’d be staying where we are at. Which will make things a lot less stressful overall! I was really surprised, I thought for sure they’d be pulling me to the states with COVID. I got some immunizations yesterday and even the nurse thought they didn’t have much use for me here and I’d be getting elsewhere. But now we have to wait for official orders and see what that does to our time out here, we’ll probably have to add onto our 4 year tour.

Dang! Cutting it close! Awesome that they did that for you. Good luck!

I’m sorry to hear that as well. I’m sure with a little more experience you’ll be a shoe in, especially for ICU.
Everything for a reason though. I’m pretty sure I was meant to be born in Italy...I’m so excited for you to have that experience. Aviano isn’t an option with my specialty but a girl can dream. Congrats on your engagement and maybe you can have an amazing Italian wedding ?

I got notified of my class date by an automated e-mail! My recruiter was unaware I had a class date until I told him. I’m suppose to have a different team help me with the post process but none of that has really happened so I’ve just continued contact with my recruiter.
