Air Force FY 2015

Published

Is anyone else on here applying for FY 2015 for Air Force? I'm in the process of applying for the selection board in October 2014 and it would be great to hear from someone else also applying for the end of this year! :)

Stack,

I want to leave for COT hopefully in January! But that just depends on if I get selected and budgeting/openings! Have you found out yet if you were selected?

morgan_porgan,

I should actually find out next week! My recruiter told me they would start letting people know after July 27th. I'm way nervous, but excited to just know what I'll be doing for the next couple years...whether I make it or not. The application process was so long, it just seems surreal to finally be getting an answer soon! And I actually requested to go to COT in January, so hopefully we will both be there! Have you submitted your essay questions yet or had your interview??

I've submitted everything, but haven't had my interview yet. My recruiter is waiting to schedule it until the new person gets to the squadron. Apparently my recruiter is switching from nurse recruiter to physician recruiter. So he has to train someone new. Kind of frustrating because I want everything to just be over and done with and he's trying to take his time about it!

You should be finding out soon if you got selected right?!

That sounds way frustrating! Especially since you've been working with that recruiter the whole time and now have to switch at the end. Hope everything goes well for you!

And yes, I should find out this next week, hopefully tomorrow (28th)

I agree that that would be frustrating. Has anyone had issues getting in touch with your recruiter? Mine will not respond to phone call or email but txt only. I think that is very unprofessional and would appreciate at least a call back when I call. Also when I txt here it takes like 4-5 days or even longer for her to return my message. It sucks because she is the only recruiter in the guard base that works with officers. I am waiting to get signed up for MEPS but its been a very long process.

Having been in you people's shoes in the paperwork process and frustration, all I can say is get used to it. :)

seriously, it took me 10 months to get in. I showed up ready to sign and had no problems or waivers or any issues. The process takes time, it isn't that your recruiter isn't working for you. They probably are mucking about in the paper for you and many others. The recruiter is not the sole process person. He sends out your papers to someone, it sits on their desk all week + before they then send it back for the next step.

So hang in there and persist with a smile - they haven't told you "no" yet. If you get one of the few precious positions, you can expect a ton more paperwork for the entire time you serve. Honestly, if you can't handle the process issues now, you won't be happy in the military and maybe should consider other avenues. (That sounds mean, but that's the nicest I can put that).

Yeah, I want to second that. Every time you want to take vacation, you'll have to go through a leave checklist with your supervisor. Like to ski in the winter? You better fill out the high risk activity form if you want your potential medical bills covered.

Finally got all my paperwork done. Talked to recruiter yesterday and now it is just waiting on the board. I wish it was the second week in October already, to know!! I will keep praying for all of us in this long journey!!

Can I ask you guys in this thread what was the reason(s) for you to choose air force over the other branches? Second degree BSN student here and won't be done till the end of 2015, looking into the military as a career option.

Envaz I would recommend at least start talking to a recruiter and get some information on the branches.

No I understand that things take time and I can handle that. I do struggle being told that information will be provided to me and it never occurs. The unit has been having a lot of issues with the recruiter. The captain advised me to be persistent so that is what I am doing. I was just wondering what others did to get a hold of their recruiters

Persistence is key; call at least every few business days (calling is always better than email).

Talk to their flight chiefs (generally a Master Sergeant) if you aren't getting a response. There is always a 'supervision' option when you call a recruiter's office number.
