Is anyone else on here applying for FY 2015 for Air Force? I'm in the process of applying for the selection board in October 2014 and it would be great to hear from someone else also applying for the end of this year! :)
Haubie,
I contacted my recruiter beginning of April, so not very long. This will be my first time applying for the board *and hopefully the only* but thats being hopeful! My recruiter doesn't respond right away, so things take way longer then they should. I'm really hoping he schedules MEPS soon, so I can get the rest of my package in and schedule my nursing officer interview before September! August is a REALLY busy month for me, so I'm hoping I can get most of my stuff done in July!
Have you applied before?
Hello all. This is my first post on allnurses. I am looking to join Air Force or Navy next summer after completing my BSN. I have 15 yrs experience as an ADN, critical care, oncology, and med/surg ortho. I was prior enlisted for 5 yrs as a Hospital Corpsman in the Navy. I looked at the Navy but they are in a hold on nurses according to the recruiter.
My question is how does the Air Force calculate experience for rank determination? The Navy was not willing to consider any of my ADN experience, which is very frustrating. I am currently in a charge nurse role and feel that my experience should count for something.
It has been difficult getting in touch with a recruiter for the Air Force. I just want to begin the paperwork process in advance and get some clarity on rank determination.
Thanks
I'm a current AF Nurse. A guy I went to commissioned officer training with got credit for his ADN/RN experience. If they count the 15 years, then you would get roughly 7.5 years of credit towards your rank. You would enter as O-3.
So you're aware, officer recruiters in general have very little motivation to 'actively recruit.' There are way more applicants than spots right now. It's going to take a lot of persistence.
My recruiter is moving really slowly when it comes to scheduling MEPS and getting back to me via email. Should I try calling him more then emailing him? And what should I say about how I"m trying to move things a little faster, I dont want to be rude, but want him to get the idea that my time is limited and need to get things going.
Yeah, calling might be better. Official AF email accounts are a bottomless pit where communication goes to die. You get tons of emails that don't apply to you and others are duplicates from each piece in your chain of command.
There is a 'supervision' option on the phone system that will allow you to speak to the flight chief. That will work if your calls still aren't giving you the results you want.
Just FYI I applied last year and Air Force will count my time as nurse with ADN. According to the calculations I will go in as O3(captain). I finished my BSN in December and will just say this is highly competitive. Not a hold on nurses but not many slots. I am applying for ER nurse and there are only 18 slots nationwide!!! Keep being persistent and stay in touch with recruiter.

Nice! Things are different for me, for I will be applying into the air guard in our state. I am having a delay due to computer issues so I dont know how long it will take.
