Is anyone else on here applying for FY 2015 for Air Force? I'm in the process of applying for the selection board in October 2014 and it would be great to hear from someone else also applying for the end of this year! :)
Yes, the 9 questions are still basically what is your voluntter experience, why do you want to join the AF, why should they pick you, etc. Anybody who has already answered the questions, any advice on how to narrow my answers down? I'm working on them now and they're only allowed to be 2 pages and I have a couple questions to answer still and I'm reaching my limit! I feel like I have a lot to say, but not enough room!
I would write what you feel you need to write. Then, edit and remove unneeded adjectives or descriptive phrases. Do one space after each sentence. Change the font to 11.5; I don't think they specify anyway.
For example, your comment's final 3 sentences could be simplified to say: "My essay responses are limited to 2 pages, and I'm on track to exceed that limit." (not trying to be rude or anything) That gets the same point across with much less space. The military likes brevity almost as much as it likes numbers. Not only will you fit the limit, but they will like your answers more.
In the military, writing like this is used to recommend promotions and awards all the time.
Huge tangent, but is that a real photo of you? It's absolutely beautiful!
rohrer88, if you graduate in December 2015 you can apply for the NTP board in July 2015 or you can wait to have experience and apply to FQ boards 2016. The NTP is only new graduate nurses without experience. I'm graduating December 2014 and just finished everything for the board in July. If I'm selected, I just have to wait to go to training until after I graduate and pass NCLEX
Thank you :-) Its just been a pain trying to get in contact with someone.
I am applying for the October 2014 fully qualified nurse. I have 8 years of broad experience and this is my second time applying. Last year I applied for ER nurse slot and was alternate #6. I have completed my interview and am updating my paperwork. I contacted the recruiter about this for the first time 15 months ago!!! It is a long process so don't get discouraged, keep in constant contact with recruiter even if u think u are annoying them. Recruiter told me that this board they will need 18 ER nurses and 10 clinical nurses, so this is highly competitive. I kept up with this blog for FY 2014 and got a lot of good information and answers to questions there.
One more thing I went through MEPS for my physical and it was just a thorough examination that included hearing and vision exams with lab work. The physical is good for 2 years so I do not have to do it again to apply this year. I interviewed with the same chief nurse at Tinker AFB in Oklahoma City. The interview was great and more like planning what you need to do once you are in. I can't wait until October to find out the results of this year
I applied as a clinical nurse with 18 months in inpatient med-surg. To my knowledge, that is what they want. Experienced nurses entering the air force with that designation will always start at a hopsital (not a clinic) and work med-surg for their 1st assignment.
However, I have heard that you can apply to multiple specialties if you are indeed qualified for them. I'm not sure if NICU qualifies you to work med-surg. Check with your recruiter, because, if let you, you definitely want to apply to multiple specialties if your goal is military nursing rather than just NICU.
