Is anybody else going to COT in October? Where are you going to NTP and/or Permanent Duty Station?

I'm going to Cincinnati for NTP, and still patiently waiting for orders.

Thank you! I trust it will all work out :)

Security clearanve didnt take too long. I think it was about a week. give or take, for me.

Is anyone leaving out of tampa or stationed at Macdill?

Is it possible to know everyone's specialty & possible base assignment after COT?

I'll be a flight nurse & it's either Scott AFB, Illinois or Pope AFB, NC.

Im a med/surg nurse going to Macdill.

Thanx Narslyf for replying. Lucky you to be already enlisted so I am guessing the physical aspect won't be a problem for you..any pointers?

No problem! I would suggest getting familiar with the physical fitness test standards for your gender and age group. The biggest chunk of points come from the run, so just work on that. I, myself, am running at least 3 times a week nowadays in preparation for COT. The push-ups and sit-ups are a matter of practice too. Before I take a fitness test, I usually do timed (1-minute) push-ups and sit-ups at least once a day so I know how to pace myself. I don't do weight-lifting very often, but those workouts do translate into the fitness test.

I'm med surg, possibly (and hopefully) going to Nellis AFB, NV.

Hello to COT Class 17-01!

I haven't been active on this site in literally years, but was searching for something on the Web this morning and allnurses popped up in the feed.

I'm an active duty USAF RN who commissioned in 2009. Currently I'm at Osan Air Base in South Korea; I just arrived here about a month ago. It's 0810 here on the 31st, which makes it 1910 on the East Coast of the US - on 30 August. Still getting used to the time difference. :)

I went to COT in October of 2009 (I was COT 10-01 - the military runs on a fiscal year going from 01 October to 30 September, so that's what makes you 17-01, assuming they still number this stuff the same) - and the first two weeks were H-O-T, but the last three or so were fairly chilly. Those of you who missed an August date, rejoice - the August class is the last of the summer surge, it is EXTREMELY hot and humid in Alabama, and the lecture halls are packed full. Having been through AF enlisted Basic Training in May and June in San Antonio (I am prior enlisted), I can tell you from experience that being stuffed into a room with 300+ sweaty, tired, no-time-to-shower this AM (yes it happens!) bodies is NOT a good time. October was far better.

I know what every single one of you have been through to get to this point and I definitely understand the waiting and the hemming and hawing you've had to do as well!

Coming back on active duty was the best decision I ever made. You will have opportunities to do things your civilian counterparts can only dream of should you decide to pursue them. This is a completely different lifestyle from that your outside friends will lead. Embrace it. No matter whether you do your time and move on or decide to make the USAF a career, work hard at whatever you (or the Air Force) decide to do. You won't regret your decision.

Best of luck to you.

Woah... blast from the past, I was actually wondering how you were doing carolinapooh after I found out I was selected for NTP because all of your posts were, and still are, some of my favorites! Even though I was a lurker back then and I grew up a military brat (so none of this was new to me), I truly appreciated your insight into the entire process, and I still go back to many of your posts:yes:. Glad to see everything is going great with you!

Omg, no kidding!! I haven't seen you in ages!! (Formerly known as LunahRN, I can't remember if the name change was before or after you were here last.) I am a civilian again! Lol. :D

Oh wow - a legend in my own time. LOL.

LUNAH - I was looking for you!!! ;) I'll try to be back more often now.

ApricotTea, you flatter me. I'm so happy to know that my information has lived on in my absence (and that it's still found useful)! Keep adding to it; of course a lot of my information is dated at this point so updates are very helpful to others.
