Affairs rampant among nurses?

In the couple of hospitals I have worked affairs among nursing staff seems to be unusually common. The two hospitals I am talking about are in different parts of the country so I am wondering If it is a nation wide phenomenon? What about the job makes nurses seek out an extramarital relationship. After what we deal with in the course of a day usually sex is that last thing on my mind at the end of a shift.

I don't have empirical evidence, but having been in the general workforce before becoming an RN, my personal opinion is that nursing is no different from any other profession. People have affairs whether in nursing or other professions. I also don't think nursing is necessarily a predictor of someone likely to have an affair, or more affairs.

Yes, agreed. People who see each other daily form close bonds. I've gotten a loving partner and many, many wonderful friendships out of my places of employment. Sure, there are affairs in the workplace, but there are also beautiful relationships that stick. :redbeathe

Anywhere where large groups of people work together and encounter emotional situations affairs can occur. Universities, hospitals, public positions, prisons, grocery stores, etc all are grounds for that. It's not specifically nursing.

I have never heard of it happening in my workplace, but then again, I stay out of the gossip circles.

Remember, unless you catch them in the act, or the persons involve confess, you do not really know who is having an affair.

i'm so turned off by the way nurses smell after 12 hours that all i want to do is go home alone, take a shower, and watch The View by myself.

Infidelity is rampant throughout our society; therefore, is should not be surprising that it is common place your work environment.

I have not noticed it in our hospital. But I can tell you when I worked in customer service in a grocery store in my late teens/early twenties it was rampant in managment. Never saw so much even till this day. (that was 15 years ago)

The way I see it then is the same as now. We are all adults and it is their choice. I do not think much about it. It happens all the time.

As side note, I have been surprised at some of the hookups. Never thought I'd see it happen with some people. :D

Great, just great. Just leaving to go grocery shopping. Not my idea of a place anybody would want to DO IT. Hope they were far from the produce.
