Nursing Students Pre-Nursing

Do you think taking physiology and microbiology in the same semester is a bad idea?

Not at all. I took A&P 1, micro & psychology on top of working full time as a pharmacy technician. It was tough but not possible. You have to prioritize your time. I had no social life but I made t through. Good luck to you!

I guess it depends on how tough the instructors are. I took A&P II and Micro the same semester. A day and night class respectively. The Micro instructor barely taught us anything but most of what we should've been learning we'd gone over in A&P I. It's doable :)

I took psychology, A&P I, ENG 101, and Sociology all in one semester and pulled of A's in all of them except sociology which I received a B in. It's doable. Do you have outside responsibilities like children or a job?

I think you should definitely do it. They can both be challenging and demanding classes but if you put the time and work in you'll be successful. I took Micro, A & P II, and college algebra in the same semester and got all A's. I didn't work though, and that's something to take into consideration. Good luck!

I think it depends on how demanding your other classes will be. Also, a lot of schools won't let you take them together. If you have good study habits, I don't think you will have a problem.

I think it is doable, just try to get a decent teacher. And make sure the classes are full semester not accelerated.

It's not an impossibility but just make sure you know what you're getting yourself into. Make sure you have enough time to study and of course, this goes without saying but take these classes seriously. Most programs weigh these classes heavily and competitively so it is essential to strive for good grades. I can't tell you how many times I've heard of people dropping or withdrawing from these core biology classes because they didn't expect it to be intensive as they are. If you are serious and dedicated, you will make it. If partying and going out having fun is still a priority, don't even bother.

Thank you guys so much for the advice! Everyone said its doable ,so i will definitely take on the challenge! I am a full time mommy to a one year old,but I'm bless to have an awesome family that will help out in any way possible to give me some alone study time:) I'm just sorting out all my semester classes ahead of time so that I'm a lot prepared for the next semester!

Thanks for the great advice! I am definitely taking school seriously.

Okay so here is my plan on when I'm going to take these classes! I do want to transfer to a four year college so these are all the classes that will enable me to get in! What do you guys think of my plan?

English 110 (fall2012)

Math 103 (fall2012)

Communication 122 (fall2012)

Psychology 120 (fall2012)

Bio 120, Principles of Biology (spring2013)

English 120 (spring2013)

Sociology 120 (spring2013)

Fitness (spring2013)

Bio 140, Anatomy (summer2013)

Chemistry organic (summer2013)

Bio 141 & 142, Physiology & Physiology Lab (fall2013)

Bio 152, Microbiology (fall2013)

Humanities (foreign language) 1 course (fall2013)

Fitness (fall2013)

Looks good except for the summer of 2013.... a genius might be able to do that or a person with a solid and thorough background in anatomy and chemistry.

Summer semesters are half as long as Fall or Spring but the overall work load per class is the same and Organic Chemistry is the toughest class of any you listed, usually - it varies according to what professor you get and what kinds of things come easier/harder to you. Anatomy is one of the next three hardest classes.

You might consider switching Anatomy and OChem to spring '13 and Biology and either English or Sociology (whichever you think will be harder for you) to summer '13.
