ADN Fall 2011 Hopefuls!!!

Published

I wanted to start a thread for those of you who have or will apply to ADN programs for the Fall 2011 semester. I have started the process but I have completed my application yet. I am nervous and super stressed. Join this thread so we can vent together. Share our journeys into nursing school.

I am a 2011 hopeful for College of Dupage. Anyone else? I am so anxious for March. I am going to be stalking the mailman.

Math was not my strong area either, although I kick butt in fractions. I've been slowly working through a drug calculation book. Math for nurses pocket guide by mary jo boyer. My school recently dropped the summer drug calc course prior to starting the program so I'm teaching myself a little at a time so I'm not cramming for that med test the first week of school.

fractions is the part I bombed on and it drug my whole dang score down!! I literally blanked on them and did them all wrong! If I had gotten even half right my overall score would of been so much higher*closer to 90%*..so its one thing I will be studying a lot!!

has anyone purchased any nursing books yet..like Nclex review books? Ive been reading the nclex forum and a lot of them are saying these books helped them through a lot of their classes.

I was searching this site and almost everyone recommended Saunders Comprehensive review for the Nclex..any version..so I got it from amazon for $1.80 w/the CD and $4 shipping, and an instructor on here also recommended the Nurses 5 minute Clinical Consult series for when we hit Med Surge so I got one ...called Treatments for .55 cents!! and I'd like to get Diseases as well *which is the one she most recommended* but the cheapest I found was $20 plus...and im all about cheap right now ;)

I know its early...but Im just excited and would love to use these as "motivation" and to remind me what Im working for.

Thanks! I need to be motivated. I appreciate the suggestions and will look at amazon to see if I can get a great deal like you :)

A friend gave me some NCLEX books, skills CD's, and drug cards. I haven't really looked at any of it. Maybe if I end up with a semester off before I start? I was told do not wait for graduation to review the NCLEX books. Honestly I am getting too much advice I know they mean well so I smile and listen. I bought a stethoscope (after borrowing different types to try out) I bought a pair of all white comfy shoes when I saw them on clearance. I figure everything I can buy early will spread out the expenses.

I haven't bought NCLEX books yet, however I did buy two books written by Lippincott Williams and Wilkins. One was Dosage Calculations made Incredibly Easy and Fundamentals of Nursing made Incredibly Easy. I am hoping those will help me with nursing school.

I am sure all those things will help. You can never be too prepared for the field of nursing :)

I have a stethoscope picked out..but im not sure if either nursing school will let me choose my own or if I have to purchase from the school..so Im waiting to buy one.

The one I want is a Littmann Classic II SE pearl pink and engraved. I was told to get a girly color so that 1. drs dont borrow it and 2. any color besides black/green/gray make it harder for people to steal.

Does anyone have an interest in a certain part of nursing already? I know this is likely to change once we get in there...but at the moment what do you have your eye on?

I would love to get on in Labor and Delivery. I've been looking at Nurse Midwife programs for the last few months and I have a great interest in that aspect of nursing. I also have an interest in working at a childrens hospital-not sure what part- or a burn unit..my father spent a week in a burn unit and it really peaked my interest.

I would love to work with fellow Veterans, also interested in Psych nursing, and L&D interests. My stethoscope is pink!!

To all, we all have to post when we get in. The postings of eager nurses to be make me already start nursing school. Just have to get over the admissions process! Lol

As long as we keep our spirits up and relax until it's time for our schools decision, we should be fine. When does your school send out decision letters?
