I wanted to start a thread for those of you who have or will apply to ADN programs for the Fall 2011 semester. I have started the process but I have completed my application yet. I am nervous and super stressed. Join this thread so we can vent together. Share our journeys into nursing school.

I started buying stuff early to save money and because I am super excited. I got both schools booklists and talked to current students. My thinking is that at orientation when I go to write a check, it won't sting as much??

Gifts:

NCLEX review book

Test Success book - wish I had sooner

Med cards

EKG Made Incredibly Easy

Purchased:

Fluids and Electrolytes Made Incredibly Easy

Tabers used from a friend

Stethoscope

White shoes

white socks

white v-neck tee shirts - for cold days

warm tall boots - because scrubs at night in New England are cold

pen light

smartpen - love it. I have hair cell damage to my ears I miss or mistake words sometimes

Tons of notebooks, pens, pencils, loose paper, printer paper large Laser ink cartridges, ring binders 2-4", highlighters, colorful tabs, and index cards

Wall calendar with half dry ease for STAT to do list!!

I bought a laser printer when my inkjet died this summer.

I still need a watch but I think I want the kind that you clip on your scrub top??

My friends and family don't get why I am so excited and buying stuff early...

I say that anything that will give you that extra step, do it. I know I have a few things I want but funds are really low...Christmas time. But I will make a list for my birthday and mother's day! All in May. And with the decision about nursing school coming also, I hoping for a wonderful month of May!

I have also gotten accepted to my program for Fall 2011 (still need acceptance letter in hand but advisor told me via phone last week...anyway) I bought my Littmann off e-bay years ago. I find it was cheaper. Please buy a good stethoscope, believe me it makes a difference and they last a long time, so its worth the investment. You cannot hear as good w/the cheap ones. Now I could not afford to buy the top of the line Littmann, but I did pretty good. As far as comfortable shoes..... good luck!! ha..ha.. Every nurse/student in america is looking for those! I have worked in the ER as a tech for the past 11 years....I have had nike (walking & running, the running are lighter and work pretty good), new balance (just bought those this week, we'll see...), nurse mates, birkenstocks, Birkis, clogs, footprints, danskos (these are really good)....I'm sure i've tried others...lol. After 12 hours on night shift (or days) on your feet, the best thing I can recommend is a good foot soak! :D Put rubbing alcohol in the water,it will help w/the achy legs and feet hurting! Good luck on your journey!!!:yeah:

PS: This was suggested form someone on another board who is currently in her first year of nursing school:

"Fundamentals for Success" and any other NCLEX style book that gave a rationale as to why answers were wrong"

I'm going to invest in this. Any nurse will tell you that you must have critical thinking skills to pass school. It's not always about the right or wrong answer, but the best, just like the best course of treatment for the patient. I'm terrified about starting school, but I think if I can change my thinking I will do ok???? ***biting nails***

@Melissa825 You wouldn't by chance be applying to Mercy School of Nursing would you? Good Luck to all of you and congratulations!!! I'm in the same boat just waiting and trying to stay positive and keep applying!

I've got my eye on a Light weight Littmann..cant wait to actual purchase it!! I'm holding off for a bit though.

I bought Saunder's comprehensive nclex review book, searching through old posts it seems to be a top pick for a lot of the student nurses/nurses to help get your mind ready for Nclex style of questions.

congrats on getting accepted!

Yes I've applied to MSON. Is that where you applied? If so what did you get on the TEAS? What is you GPA? What grades did you make in you pre-reqs? Do you have a degree? Sorry for all the questions but I really want to know what the competition is.

Congrats!! :yeah:

I always wear good running shoes they are the only I can wear. I also wear orthotics so I wear running shoes with everything.

Do you have a IBSN for that book?

I've got a chemistry final in the morning, then I have to take my Anatomy and physiology final on Thursday. I was suppose to have it this morning but my son was sick and when I called his ped they said to take him to the ER. It tuned out to be strep. I'm trying to decide whether I can handle taking micro and A&P2 together next semester. Our entrance is on a point system. I need all the points I can get! I've taken the TEAS V and scored an82% adjusted,93 national percentile. I'm hoping to take it again and score a little higher this spring. I'm so sick of stressing over nursing school! I can't wait till Xmas break...bet I spend it stressing anyway, especially when everyone at family functions always asks about school. Oh well...I'm just going to keep humming "jingle bells" and try to keep the bah humbugs at bay ; )

CertifiedTech and Melissa825 what nursing school have you applied to? And when will you get notification? Is it for entry into the program for the Spring or Fall of 2011?

Mercy School of Nursinf in Charlotte,NC. We are waiting on our letters now(we will have them by the end of the week). We have applied for the summer of 2011. The school we've applied to accepts applications 3 times a year but its very competetive. MSON only takes between 30-40 a semester. They only have a total of 140 students in the entire school. What about you?

@studentnursect

I'm worried about my Micro final tomorrow, so far there is one B student, six C's, the rest are D and F. He posts a chart, no A's, but he does curve....back to the grind
