Accepted FSCJ Summer 2010 Students

Published

Hey everybody!

I just wanted to start a separate thread regarding our acceptance into the FSCJ (a.k.a. FCCJ) Summer 2010 "RN" program. I know we've all been posting to the "hopefuls" page but now that we aren't "hopefuls" anymore, and we're more like "stressfuls"... I thought I'd start a new page... JOIN ME! :)

I guess it is technically called something else other than "RN program" but... here we go anyway.

I'm still a bit confused as to whether, during orientation, I should be more focused on getting a hospital close to my house or a teacher that will be great during my first term.

Does anyone have any suggestions on this? I've always made the teacher my first priority but I'm curious as to whether or not, those of you who have been there, think that there is a big enough difference in teachers that we would be wise to drive for miles to get to a specific one.

I have two boys, 4 & almost 2.
My kids are also 4 and almost 2... My youngest is 19 months. Though mine aren't both boys. I have one of each.

Hi guys,

Has anyone purchased their shoes for clinicals yet? I figured I'm just gonna grab a cheapie pair from Target, but all the "all-white, leather/non leather, no clogs" shoes I've seen are HORRENDOUS! I'm wondering if anyone has found any halfway decent looking pairs that aren't too expensive.

I will definitely wear the uniform with pride, but wow is it nerdy looking, especially with clunky, gleaming white shoes! :lol2:

I bought the Nurse Mates. No they do not make a fashion statement. But they feel like marshmallows on your feet! We will be on our feet a lot during clinicals. Nerdy feet are happy feet!;)

Does anyone know the Course ID for Medical Terminology... I have the access code but no course id yet.

Congratulations to all who are accepted in the nursing program. I was hoping to get in the summer program next year but working full time and raising a family is a bit too much. I'm targeting for Fall 2011. I'll get there slowly but surely. Anyway, can someone tell me what book to use for the NAT review?

I had a question from my previous post regarding the schedule. Say for instance, I'm accepted in the program. This is the worst case scenario. Term I has 4 classes. What if I'm not able to take 4 classes. What if I'm only able to take 2 or 3? Is it possible? And the other class(es) I'll take next semester. Will the scheduler allow it? I want to make sure I'm prepared for this.

Thank you.

Hi,

They will not give us the code until after the first week. I took the tests last term and you really only need to read the chapters, study the cards and memorize the facts or activities on the CD (play the games). If you do this you should do great on the exam - Oh - make sure you know the difference between prone and supine!:yeah:

Really there is no review book for the NAT per se. I scored pretty well without a book... I did however do best taking the test the same day as my 1st Microbiology Exam... The science section is a mix of everything you learned in Anatomy 1 & 2, Chemistry, and a small little bit from Micro. Nothing really in depth though. Math is... well it's math... either you know it or you don't... And the other stuff like reading comprehension and recognizing correct spelling you can't study too much for. I would suggest that since you have a lot of time until you are planning to apply, that you take the NAT soon as a practice. They use your best grades so it won't hurt you... just remember that you can't take it again for 3 months and no more than 2x in a year... The test is exactly the same each time you take it. So by taking it now, you'll know where you need to work on.

As for the classes... you have to take all 4 at once from what they are telling us... but the schedule is totally do able... I would suggest the night program though if you are going to be working full time... For day time my schedule seems like it won't be bad. Mondays are tests at 3pm, Tuesday morning, Wednesday all day, Thursday off, and Fridays until 2. But that's just one schedule for term 1. Hope that helps.

The program is structured and does not allow for changes. For first term - You have to commit to tests every Monday, class for 3 hours one day, 6 hours another and 5 on another. Then when clinicals start you need to pick up your assignment from the hospital the day before and spend 2-8 hours doing a Care Plan for the next day.

As for the NAT, don't buy the book, it is way over the top for what they are asking. Study your text books and go online, there are some great practice tests online.

Most of us have families, but strive to make the commitment for their future and ours.

Good luck to you! Do your best to make A's. The competition gets tougher with each term.

Ha Ha Jen we were writing at the same time! I am group 6 too!

There is a book in the campus book store but again... way too much....it added stress.

Thank you for the response. Now I know I have to take all classes each term. I thought there was wiggle room. I am planning on taking the NAT so I know where I stand just in case I flank the first time. I'll study for now.

I just checked my email and it says we have a mandatory meeting April 26th for the Hesi exams. Does tht mean we have to take the exam or just helping us prep for it? Is everyone ready for the 2 tests on May 10th?

This msg is for people completing term 1 (note it tells them they will still have time to review for their Pharm exam). We will take the HESI as part of one of our courses during term 1.:)

I have been reviewing for the two exams.
