Has anyone recieved one???? Ive applied to U of P and a few others but the wait is killing me!!!!! I recieved a letter RE: providence scholarship Interview and i was lucky to recieve one!! but i havent heard from U of P yet
so just wondering about others, let me know and GOOD LUCK!!!!!
I'm on the wait list too...... GRRRR!!
UP is different because it doesn't ask for anything supplemental at all-- it only goes off of GPA.... no recommendation letter, or essay. So anyone without a 4.0 GPA in their prereq's beware-- this program does not look at other experience when considering your app (medical experience, volunteer work, etc.) which I think is silly.
But congrats to whoever gets in, I would be thrilled to receive an acceptance to any of the 6 schools I applied to (especially because it's my 4th year applying)!!
:)
taz5869.... not sure what my overall GPA for prereqs was, but I think it's roughly around 3.4-3.5. I did have a previous bachelor's degree from PSU in Community Health Ed & Health Sciences with a 3.76 GPA. I have all my prereqs finished except the theology.... I also have a ton of medical experience (CNA, volunteer with the Red Cross, spent my senior capstone for PSU studying abroad in Mexico learning about their health care system, etc...) but unfortunately U of P doesn't really look at this because of the way their app is set up.
Dohgirl,
I think we are in more of the same boat than you think.
2 years ago I was accepted to OHSU and didn't go because I didn't like that it was a 3 year program and frankly other thinkgs going on in my life made me think it just wasn't the right time. Last year I applied to 3 schools and had no luck.
This year I have applied to 7 schools, I talked to each advisor for tips and tricks. Eventhough, UP doesn't ask for supplemental materials, I still put them in, in fact I put supplemental materials into every school. Recommendations, certifications, copy of my diploma from PSU, which is also in community health ed. I also have about a 3.4-3.5 GPA. Don't give up! I really hope you get into something this year.
Congrats smASHthis!! I also have been admitted to UP! I am so excited!!
Dohgirl - I have a 3.9 GPA, a B.S. in Actg and have a few years of professional business experience. I have no medical experience and my pre reqs will be done at the end of Spring term.
To set myself apart, I made the few short application questions into essays that I hoped would distinquish myself from other applicants. The questions per the application were:
1. In a few sentences, please describe your most rewarding work or volunteer experience.
2. Describe how you first became interested in attending University of Portland.
3. What was the most important factor in your decision to apply to the University?
I spinned each question in order to convey that I was an investment for their program. I used unconventional reasoning. I never mentioned that I was a caring person, nor that I wanted to help others. Instead I argued that based on my experiences (both personal and professional) I could bring something unique to the nursing profession.
Hope this helps!!
I am on the waitlist. Does anyone have any idea how many people are placed on the waitlist and what the chances of being accepted from the waitlist are? I also applied to OHSU Acc Bac and will be applying to UP Masters program, I just want a back up plan and that's why I applied to the transfer program at UP to up my chances of being accepted somewhere. I have a small child and a house so I could not apply anywhere far.
Thanks for the info!

Linfield said they'd mail their letters out around the 1st of April. I believe OHSU Accelerated program is around that time, as well, and the OHSU regular BSN program acceptance letters will go out about a month later.
