Hi everyone,
I'm making this thread to see if anyone else is applying to Umass Amherst for fall 2017 acclerated nursing program?

Thanks for all the info, it's really helpful! I was browsing apartment listing websites and the prices in Springfield seem pretty reasonable to me. I really like what I've seen of places in Forest Park, what's your opinion of that area? Also, do you think I could get by using public transportation or do I need to have a car in Springfield?
Are you planning on going to the open house event on March 25th? I can't make it but I'm looking forward to people's impressions.
Is the program taking place exclusively at the Springfield campus? I knew the classes were going to be offered there, but I didn't see anything on the program website about it moving out of Amherst. Might this be something new that went out with acceptances?
Also, for anyone on the waiting list- I was told that the admissions committee met this week to decide on the order of the applicants on the waiting list, so I would GUESS that if any spots have opened up, we might start hearing soon? Fingers crossed!

Attended reception in Springfield today. The campus/facilities are really beautiful. Very clean and fresh. Study lounge has large windows, allowing view of outside. Surrounding area is revamped and nice also. The positive vibe I received from the professors and administrators was the same as at info session - positive, supportive, and invested in the students' learning.
RE: blackberrymousse
I spoke to several students - all nice, smart, motivated people. Ages, and this is a guess, early twenties to mid fifties. I spoke to a woman from Florida and another from the Bronx, who are looking for housing, but there were several people who asked questions about relocating.

So I have lived in springfield most of my life and prior to that I lived in NYC. Springfield is technically considered a "city" but there ain't anything city about it. The cost to live in spfld is very reasonable and there about neighbors that are mostly off campus students due to the fact that they have some great colleges in spfld. I will say this NOOOOOO spfld is not "dangerous" as Hartford some Boston area and NYC or even worcester . Yes we have crime but unless your affiliating yourself with these type of people you shouldn't have a problem. Idk why people have this perception of spfld that it is so horrible when it isn't. Honestly as much as I love Hadley amherst Northampton I would rather stay home in spfld and commute. If your coming from small town this will be a big change for you. But I will say spfld and the surround areas are great places to live.
Now if you are a parents moving here with a small child I will suggest putting your child outside of spfld. My parents always put me in school choice programs so I went to school in longmeadow and Chicopee which are amazing school districts.
As for the night life its boring. I'm always in Hartford or take a trip to Boston. You can find a bar in spfld and hang out but I just perfer going else where. There is one huge mall in spfld area which is in Holyoke but it's your typical stores nothing too too high end. Honestly if it's a temporary move or even a permanent one you will not regret it.
