ABSN UMASS Amherst 2017

Published

Hi everyone,

I'm making this thread to see if anyone else is applying to Umass Amherst for fall 2017 acclerated nursing program?

I got a waitlist letter in the mail today *sad face. Hoping that changes by may 15th. Umass is my no. 1 choice for an absn program, I got into others but umass is the cheapest and has the best comments and reviews of the other schools I've been accepted to. Crossing my fingers to get an accepted email/letter!

To anyone previously in the program: I was doing some research and see that the school has ATI exams. Are these exams administered after every semester or before graduating?

Does the school prepare you for these exams, because I know some schools won't prepare you.

Does the school have any exit exams that are required to be passed before graduating?

To the people on the waitlist: I'm not at my apartment and I won't be for another week so I'm not sure if I got on the waitlist or rejected. Do you need to respond and say that you would like to be placed on the waitlist or does UMass automatically put you on? I wouldn't want to miss a spot if I needed to do something after getting the letter. Thank you!

Hi @ashmash, the waitlist letter states that you only need to contact admissions if you would like to be taken off the waitlist. Also, they are hoping to accept people off the waitlist by May 15. Hope this helps!

Thank you so much! That helped a lot!

Does anyone know anything about Springfield Mass or has anyone been there? When I applied, I thought the program would be in Amherst but turns out it's not. I'm trying to decide between UMASS Amherst and Simmons College in Boston's ABSN program. UMASS Amherst was ranked much higher by US News & World Reports (at least for their Masters & Doctoral nursing programs) than Simmons, but I can't find any info about the clinical sites for UMASS Amherst or what clinical sites the program helps to place students in. It seems like Simmons offers good clinical opportunities in Boston. Also, I'm not from the East Coast so I'm a bit clueless about Boston vs. Springfield. Everything I've tried to google about Springfield seems to come up with articles about how it's not actually as dangerous as its reputation and is less dangerous than New Haven or Hartford which it often gets compared to. Any info would be appreciated, I'm having a really hard time trying to decide.

(Cost-wise, both programs would be about the same for me since I'm an out-of-state student. Main difference would be that I'm guessing housing in Boston would be a bit pricier than Springfield.)

I live in springfield. I will reply to you later I just saw this as I'm walking into work.

Re: blackberrymousse

Will be going to see the Springfield campus this Saturday, March 25th. It appears to be a newly revitalized area with parking, food, CVS right there. I live in northern CT, so this location will drastically cut down on my commute. For me, it was a wonderful surprise. The CT border is only about 20 minutes away, so that's another option to consider for housing, but quiet suburbs are definitely my preference. Best of luck.

Thank you! I'm looking forward to any info you can give about Springfield.

Re: CTmom

If it's not too much trouble, please post back here about your thoughts of the city, the area the campus is in, and the campus itself after your visit. I would love to hear about your impressions of it, thanks!

Re: blackberrymousse

I am not sure how much I will see on Saturday, but will absolutely provide some feedback. A suggestion about exploring a new area - maybe look at Chambers of Commerce and Public Library "Things to Do" Calendar on websites - this can tell a lot about the community, based on how people fund programming.

Re: CTmom

Thank you for the advice! Looking forward to hearing your thoughts after your visit!
