ABSN UMASS Amherst 2017

Nursing Students School Programs

Published

Hi everyone,

I'm making this thread to see if anyone else is applying to Umass Amherst for fall 2017 acclerated nursing program?

I had to say something when i saw your question. I was in exact same situation as you when I was applying for Absn programs. I will be starting Amherst's ABSN next month.

UMass Amherst is talking about min 3.0 in prereq courses, not your old BA gpa

I graduated from my undergrad in 2009 with a terrible gpa (under 3.0!) so I didn't meet most schools' min gpa requirement. However, I got 4.0 in all my prereq classes and also worked as a CNA& mental health tech for almost 4.5 years while figuring out what I really wanted to do with my life and finishing prereq classes.

What I can say for sure is that having a low gpa will definitely not make them take one look at your old gpa& reject you.

I also heard from other student that they like to look at applicants in a more wholistic way than just gpa alone-meaning they like people with experience in healthcare background. So don't give up!

Hello shamadi,

I wanted to direct message you but I am not active enough to be allowed to do that. How is the program going so far? Do you believe the program is organized? I applied and am impatiently counting down until March.

Hi Shamadi - I still cannot private message (they only allow that if you most at least 15 times). Would you still recommend this program to others? Do you feel on track to be prepared for the NCLEX? How are the classes/grades structured? Thank you!

Hey there! Were you ever able to get any information on this?

Hey Everyone! I was just accepted for Fall and was wondering how you liked this program? What was your average week like, how did you like the town of Amherst, did you feel supported at the hospital? Thanks so much!
