  1. New nurse 3months off orientation here! I made similar mistake with a pt whom we were keeping intentionally permissive hypertension due to ischemic stroke. Order was to hold all BP meds for SBP under 140 but i gave it when sbp was 131 and caught my own mistake next day. I panicked so bad like you did so I talked to my previous preceptor and came clean to my manager as well. They all said it was just a simple mistake and not a big deal but just to learn from it! Now I never miss any BP goal, parameters, prn meds and such. Don’t be so hard on yourself! I know how this feels but be glad mistake you made is not something serious
  2. You have to pay $200 to register for NCLEX first, but even after paying, you still cannot view future testing dates unless you receive ATT (authorization to test) from the board of nursing (of the state in which you apply to be licensed). Board of nursing sends att to Pearson vue and Pearson will notify you. Hope this answered your question? So you can pay whenever you’re ready and then pick testing date as soon as ATT comes out
  3. I’m sorry to hear this. Did you do quick results to verify PVT? Sometimes pvt can be wrong. Also, did you use other study materials besides UWorld? UW is good but I feel like some other prep materials in addition to UW can be helpful to build strong foundation in every system. My school used ATI and I used ATI books to go over many different body systems in adult med/surg, maternity, fundamental, pharm, pedi, etc by focusing on my weakness. Maybe you could use Saunders book? I heard good thigs about it. And I did roughly 1660 questions on UW and used their flash card& highlighter function heavily to review again after doing all those questions to reinforce. i hope you hear good news soon!
  4. Can’t comment on Hurst as I didn’t use it. My school used ATI but I also purchased UWorld. I highly recommend U World-I did about 1700 questions out of a little over 2000 they offer along with self assessment test. I also did over 2000 Qs on ATI while using their books. Really going through and understanding UWorld’s rationales helped so much I think. I passed first time at 75 Qs. Sure ATI helped but by itself was definitely not sufficient. UWorld has exact same format as NCLEX and very similar level of difficulties. I think if you combine both Hurst and Uworld you will be golden provided you have enough time. Good luck!
  5. Congratulations!!! I took mine on 3/8 and just found out through quick results this morning that I passed too. I completely agree with you. Mine was cut off at 75 questions and I felt pretty bad afterwards. I got exactly 27 SATA questions (I counted). Most of the time I felt like I was just guessing! I tried PVT as soon as I got that email from Pearson and one more time after 24hrs using real credit card info and got good popup both times. So I would say it really works! My school used ATI but didn’t feel that was enough so I also used UWolrd and it really helped so much. I did 1-2 sets of 75 questions daily and really focused on going over rationales. I honestly believe if I didn’t use UW, I wouldn’t have passed. Anyways, thanks for sharing this and hope this helps anyone that’s preparing for Nclex now. congrats!
  6. I'm not sure I agree with this. I'm in 2017-18 cohort right now finishing up spring semester. From what I see among our classmates, they take experience into consideration a lot more than you think. I personally didn't have good gpa from my first school degree (3.0), had 4.0 from prereqs and about 4 years of health care experiences and there are many who didn't do so great grade wise but had much life experience in health care related areas.
  7. I had to say something when i saw your question. I was in exact same situation as you when I was applying for Absn programs. I will be starting Amherst's ABSN next month. UMass Amherst is talking about min 3.0 in prereq courses, not your old BA gpa I graduated from my undergrad in 2009 with a terrible gpa (under 3.0!) so I didn't meet most schools' min gpa requirement. However, I got 4.0 in all my prereq classes and also worked as a CNA& mental health tech for almost 4.5 years while figuring out what I really wanted to do with my life and finishing prereq classes. What I can say for sure is that having a low gpa will definitely not make them take one look at your old gpa& reject you. I also heard from other student that they like to look at applicants in a more wholistic way than just gpa alone-meaning they like people with experience in healthcare background. So don't give up!
  8. I could not agree with retiredmednurse more. It seems like what you need to do first is to make sure this field is right for you before investing so much time and more loan towards a career that you may end up hating since nursing is definitely not for everyone. I graduated with a bachelors degree in Psychology and always thought about going into nursing but was very hesitant because of all those dirty work involved- my mom was a nurse and she did not like it so she only worked a couple years and quit. That's why I decided to work as a CNA first. Much quicker to become a CNA and it is very hands on- I worked on Telemetry med/surg floor and I learned so much about nursing by working and observing with nurses and doctors. It's not just CNAs that have to do dirty work..all the RNs had to do it together. I worked the night shift and the pay was not bad after night shift pay differential. After about a year, I started working as a mental health worker in a psychiatric hospital and that also gave me a very hands on experience in a different setting. While working full time, I took time to finish all the prerequisite courses like A&P, Microbio, Chem, Lifespan psych, etc. I didn't want to rush into it as it was my second bachelor and a career choice. I wanted to make sure this is really what I wanted to do. I just got accepted to an accelerated bacelors program for nursing that starts next month! I cannot wait to start it and become a nurse. I love working in this field and my experience in healthcare setting definitely without a doubt helped me get accepted into a program and I feel so prepared and comfortable to work with patients in any setting just like retiredmednurse mentioned. Best of luck in your future!
  9. Not yet. I will have to send deposit to other school that has 5/1 deadline but I'm still hoping to hear back from NYU. Good luck everyone!
  10. RyanK94 thanks for that info! I am going to call the school again maybe today or today..give them some time to sort out mails. I was told they still haven't received one of my transcripts that I requested to be sent twice and my 2nd LOR when I called last week. Lady on the phone said decisions will be made all throughout April and May so I wouldn't get too anxious if we don't hear back this week. NikNikV, my application on Pace still says in review but my understanding was that they were already sending out interview requests and I haven't heard anything so I just gave up on hope of getting into Pace. Now just waiting for NYU!
  11. I am with you Blackberrymousse, I submitted my app more than 6wks ago and they still say one of my transcripts& LoR haven't arrived yet.. I don't know what to do. I didn't have to do any of this with U Mass amherst and I just got acceptance letter one day..i wish it wouls be the same way!!! í ½í¸³ I did speak to admissions counselor and he said decisions will be sent out all through April and May so I say we all be patient!!!
  12. Not yet! I applied before priority deadline and I called teice to check on my app status. They keep saying they haven't received 1 transcript from one of my schools...and I requested that to be sent twice! And one of two recommendations sent they haven't received yet...I'm so worried!
  13. blackberrymousse, I actually didn't look much into the quality of programs I applied to because I seriously doubted my chances of getting accepted anywhere due to my low undergrad gpa although I managed to get 4.0 on all prereqs so I was basically just applying to very few that didn't have strict gpa requirements! It is good to know that about Pace though so thank you! I guess NYU has better nursing program. My ultimate goal is to become NP in psych but that won't happen for couple years down the road so over 100k debt is seriously crazy money!
  14. I know I couldn't believe it either. I still wonder if I did the math wrong but I googled and on some post from 2011 the price was only slightly lower than that. I will have to confirm with school to be sure. I applied to Pace ABSN also and I think their tuition is around 50-60k but they accept only 60-70 students so smaller chance of getting in..=( Definitely makes me wonder is it worth being in so much debt to get a nursing degree..
  15. Frankie28, very impressive! Congrats on you acceptances. Those are amazing schools Blackberrymousse, I've heard good things about UMass Amherst program also and with their tuition being so affordable, it's a no brainer to go there if moving across the state wasn't such a big hassle. I did some math to estimate NYU tuition- it came out to be about over 90k. I don't know if I made mistake in my calculation but they list price according to number of credits you take and that's what I came to which is nuts since UMass amherst is only around 35k! and with housing cost on top of that and everything else in the city being so expensive. But I am sure you you will find a way to love NYC. I personally love it but maybe because I prefer cities.. Best of luck to all of us!!!
